Tank of the Month Poll June 2018

I can't believe that pic is from less than a month ago LOL It looks a lot different now. I bet @Hidr's does too!
  3. I Hi, folks. Need some ideas for Rosie. She's a Ryukin (but not great quality lol) I got from Petsmart like six or seven years ago. She made it through fish-in cycling with me and two moves of house, but she's not doing well. Floating at the top with her back sticking out. She CAN swim down and does occasionally to scavenge at the bottom and she always remains oriented correctly, but she pops right back up to the top when she stops swimming actively. Will upload a video shortly. Just filled up my QT tank which is a 40B so that's ready if I need it. She also is blind, I am pretty sure (not a recent development and unrelated) but earlier I was looking at her (maybe paranoid lol) and thought it looked like around her eyes was swollen/pop eye?? Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) - 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) - 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) - 10 * Ammonia Level(Tap) - 1 * Nitrite Level(Tap) - 0 * Nitrate level(Tap) - 0 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.4 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API * Water temperature? I don't know. Room temp, no heater, AC set at 70. * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 100 gallon, 4-5 years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Penn Plax Cascade 1200 and AquaClear 110 both w/ extra Biomax. * How often do you change the water and how much? Once a week, 70-80%. * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Four days ago, 80% * How many fish in the tank and their size? Six, smallest two are 3 inches without tails, largest is 8 inches without tail. * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Switch between NLS goldfish pellets (main), Omega One, Bug Bites, Repashy Soylent Green, veggies like zuchhini and peas Two times a day. * Any new fish added to the tank? About a month ago I added one. * Any medications added to the tank? Currently prazipro, second round which ends tomorrow. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. For this issue really I've just fasted the fish for three days and tried feeding peas several times. Hasn't helped. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? No * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? For a while she has spent a lot of time at the top, she'd gulp some, now she's not gulping but also her back is sticking out of the top.

    Help needed with a floater

Back with an update. Oh boy. My whole tank got hit with something NASTY. I seriously thought I was going to lose them all. My theory is costia and secondary bacterial infection. I think Rosie's floating and Bob's jump out of the tank were the very first signs. Then another one started floating just like her, and they were all lethargic and gulping and flashing and getting a LOT of excess slime. First thought it was parasites, so I started with salt and prazi. They got worse so I tried MG and formalin. They got worse and started getting ulcers. I moved them to a hospital tank and did five or six rounds of Kanaplex and Metro. The floaters started clamping and bottom sitting But then suddenly they improved! And they're all doing SOOOOOOOOO much better now! Rosie isn't floaty anymore!! She swims like normal. The only thing is I'm afraid the medication or something burned her because her whole head turned black. None of the other fish had this happen, and I was checking water params every day and changing it every other day throughout this so I am certain it wasn't ammonia. Either way, she's back to her old self (and so are the other fishies).
  6. My oldest is Rosie, a ryukin I am certain was stunted when I got her from Petsmart. She hasn’t grown much at all while the others I got at the same time as her did. Anyway she’s about to turn seven (counting from when I got her). She’s not in the best shape. Blind and she gets floaty and bonks into things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Make sure your tank and tap pH are same or very close and match temperature. I always do more than 50%. See my signature. [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Good Goldfish Source

Acro, I was just thinking about you the other day! Know what I was thinking? “I wish Acro was still around and selling anubias attached to wood.” [emoji7] I’m so sorry to hear about your goldies. I just lost one of mine I’d had for about seven years in a weird accident. I’m tearing up now just thinking about it. She was a petsmart “feeder” like mentioned above and GORGEOUS and super healthy. 9. My Bob is gone. Bob was one of my first goldfish, a $.27 "feeder" who grew into a gorgeous sakura comet. While I was in bed sick today she jumped out of the tank and the dogs ... finished the job. I don't know why. The water parameters are good. I'm just destroyed and I want to sell the rest of the fish and tanks and give up.

I can't believe it (warning - not pretty)

Thank you all. She was seriously my favorite. I loved to show her to people as an example of why you can’t keep goldfish in bowls. I felt such pride at how big and healthy she was. I really thought she’d be with me for a long time. I still can’t believe it when I feed the tank and she’s not there at the top waiting for me to drop a pellet right in her mouth like I always did. [emoji24] It was just so shocking and sudden. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Fluval Bug Bites

My fish love this too but it makes the floaty ones miserable. I think there’s als black soldier fly larva in Repashy Soylenr Green. That doesn’t make them as floaty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    AO Ranchu and Gingyo

Speaking of breeders, did Steve at RG stop? I have noticed a dwindling number of fish available in recent times.

    Help needed with a floater

By the way, today she looks a little better. She's at least keeping her whole self in the water lol.

    Help needed with a floater

Hmm. Okay, I will try that. So in a 40B, what, like half full? I'll have to find some duckweed. Regarding your question - I clean out the filters every 5th or 6th water change. I don't really keep track, Just when I'm like oh, I haven't done that in a while. So that includes emptying out the water.

    Draammmaa fish!

So I went to get a boyfriend for my angelfish today. He has a Harry Potter mark on him!!! She was NOT appreciative, to Say the least. So cross hastily constructing a fish jail off my bucket list. Any tips for curbing her territorial aggression? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Draammmaa fish!

The one in fish jail is bigger. There are no other angels but there's rainbows and buenos aires tetras and some teeny tiny clown loaches.
  18. Not sure if the older Kokonuts will remember Lucy, but she was seriously my favorite fishy ever. She was always having issues with floating and pineconeing and eventually I couldn't save her. Here's the reference pic I gave the artist and her watercolor painting. She's going to do the background blue and then I'll frame it and hang it over my 100 g tank.

    AO Ranchu and Gingyo

The AO Ranchu I believe is lavender ranchu in English. I have one (not as nice as that one though!), imported from China. I've never seen a fish like the Gingyo though.

    She’s just so darn CUTE.

Hidr you’re making me want a salt tank! Here is Mama Sucky. I keep her and Papa Sucky separated for obvious reasons [emoji23]. You can see from the glass how hard working she is [emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Pothos question.

I’ve heard cats and dogs shouldn’t eat it. Never had an issue with the fish though. I have a giant one with roots submerged in my patio pond and the fish are always hiding under it. I bet the nibble it too. Healthy as horses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Went out to check on the pondies and cover them up for the night and Uma (tosakin) was GONE. I mean, she's white, the pond liner is black, and I was shining a flashlight in and she was nowhere to be seen. Oh, finally, there she is under the Pothos all tangled up in the stems. And she's just sitting there like "Well, ok. I guess this is just my life now. It's cool." Temp dropped recently and then warmed back up so I bet Sweeney was chasing her and she ended up there. BOYS.
