  1. Past hour
  2. Yeah, I’m assuming she didn’t know any better or was too far gone to realize the care went from okay to major neglect. Yikes!
  3. The worst part is that the under gravel filter was long ago abandoned and disconnected and the hang on back filter has no biological media. This owner passed away or otherwise these fish would have still been in that tank. The people who were helping clean everything out said she had five tanks at one time. 😲 I have 8, but I can't imagine any of them ending up in that shape. It was really sad. I think she must not have known better or she would have done something differently. She had ample financial means to care for them.
  4. Today
  5. That must have been very bad.... I had a guppy tank once that got a bad smell to it cause we had to much gravel in there. I cant imagine just how gross that was. Well the best part is the fish got a new lease on life
  6. It’s tough to see them neglected because of bad care advice. But because they’re inexpensive and don’t bark or meow when they’re in pain it can be tough for a novice or someone who just doesn’t care enough to do the research to realize they’re mistreating their animals. Tons of gravel and under gravel filters with ten inches of fish in a ten gallon tank WAS the advice for decades. People not considering that an inch of goldfish or catfish isn’t equivalent, in mess or body mass, to an inch of tetra. When you know better you do better, right? Care practices keep evolving and improving and the best we can do is spread the work and, as you did, step in and offer better care when the chance arises 👍
  7. I was very nauseated trying to clean that tank. I removed an entire plastic colander of gemstones, marbles and sea glass and then another full three gallon bucket worth of gravel after that. It was so gross I had to stop several times to keep my stomach contents in place, and I am a vet tech and a mom, so I've cleaned my share of grossness. As disgusting as it was, I know the only thing keeping the ammonia in that tank from killing the fish was the bacteria on those rocks. Even so, those goldfish went through hell because they have curled gill plates from the ammonia burns over the years.
  8. I have a thick java fern and some sort of moss and some hornwort wrapped around the mug I put in there for the grown ups. I’m hoping by the time any babies come around that the hornwort will have grown significantly! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. So very true. We had to keep all our stuff on the deck. This way three cats can't get to it
  10. If you want to keep babies in there. your going to need plants. Lots of plants. The fry once they are born like to hide in the plants. I would have some that will float at the top so that the fry have a place to hide. The parents will try and eat the babies, because they are so small that they look like lava to them. :O
  11. My biggest issue currently is that our cat is far too interested in what I’m doing. No one wants to buy clothes covered in cat hair [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. We did it last year, she was 5 then. It was hard to keep her hands off of things at other ppl houses lol
  13. Thanks Koko! I don’t plan on buying more because I have no desire to set up a qt tank I was more thinking in terms of keeping babies haha! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Did you guys do it after your daughter was born? That’s the plan for us, so I can spend time at home with the baby. But it’s so much work it seems like it would be difficult with a newborn! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I Would only have one male and two females. Since the do breed like crazy. If you don't want them to breed. I would just do all male or all female. About 3-4 of them. That sounds about right.
  16. I have about the same amount of totes lol. We have ty's, turbines, cameras and other stuff. Just couldn't sell it fast enough to really make it. Sad cause it was fun for me
  17. Ok! Thanks Koko. How many swords do you think can comfortably fit in the 10g? I think one of them has babies in her. Also, how often and how much should i do water changes given that my tank isn’t cycled? I was thinking every other day, 2-4 gallons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. They do like the water ph in the 7.2 to 8.0, and stable. So make sure your kh is up there so your ph will be stable. I wouldn't worry about a sponge filter as these guys can't destroy plants like goldfish can lol
  19. That’s most of what I have right now but my mom has about that many more at her house for me to take [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I have about 300 listings right now, they’re mostly women’s clothes but some are men’s. I don’t enjoy it LOL! But I’ve sold roughly 50 things in about three months. Plus it’s something I can do from home so I’m trying to make the best of it. All my inventory right now my mom gave me (she is trying to get out of eBay) so I haven’t put anything into it. 21. Do they have a specific GPH requirement like goldfish do? And I have hornwort and some kind of moss; should I put a sponge over the intake to reduce clogging or is it not necessary? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. My hubby was doing Ebay, but it was just to hard for him. We would go to estate sales and find things. Now I need to do a garage sale lol
  23. Since they are so much like guppies, I would do blood worms and flakes. My hubbies guppies loved that kind of mix. As for filtration, just a hob would be good.
  24. Beautiful! It’s so clear and clean lol. I always had trouble keeping my goldfish tanks so pristine. Bubbles is super cute! I almost bought a tiny ranchu that looked a lot like him last night! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Well in 6 months I guess I’ll be working too then lol. I’m too sick to do my “day job” so my boss and I agreed to not schedule me for awhile. But I sell clothes on eBay as a “side hustle” so I’m hoping I’ll be able to be more consistent and make bank [emoji119] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  26. Im a working. Lol I got a 6 year old rofl
