Something Hanging From My Goldfish

3 posts in this topic

Our family purchased 2 shubunkin goldfish 8 days ago. We have a 10 gallon rectangular, starter tank. The fish are about 1-1/2 " long. We have been testing our water and so far have only seen ammonia levels of approximately 0.5 ppm.

I noticed last night that one of the fish had a clear "string" hanging from its underside that was red on the end. This morning the "string" is still there but it is all clear. I also saw poop at the same time this morning so I don't think it is poop. The fish is acting ok, maybe swimming more slowly, but nothing drastic. Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks

It sounds like an Anchor Worm which is a parasite. There are treatments available but I've never had to deal with it before so I'm not sure myself. You could scroll through this forum and look for any reference to Anchor Worm but I'm sure someone with more knowledge on this subject will come on soon.

Cheers! Annette

Cheers! Annette
