  1. <p> </p><p> </p> <p>Scales not as raised as before, so I'm taking that as a sign of improvement. Temp's already at around 76-78F. The tub she's in is meant to be temporary, til I can find a nicer looking home for her. She's gonna be solo from now on... she may have not been getting as much food as the others before, and she definitely won't have a chance now without being able to see. I think the filters may have had a hand in this, it's been a while since I've cleaned em. I just changed one of the pads out coz it was almost falling apart. </p> <p> </p> <p>She has grown since I got her, lengthwise, just not in girth. I wonder if she has parasites keeping her from plumping up.</p> <p> </p> <p> Yes she mentioned the bubbles on the fish and I just wondered if they were caused by a high pressure water change. Not as the main problem but a second issue making the fish weaker. Weak fish get picked on, not stronger very active ones usually.</p><p> </p> <p>I did initially wonder if the bubbles came from inside her body... but she was swimming right above the "volcano" bubbler ornament in the tank which produces very fine bubbles. I think the rougher surface of her body from the raised scales made it easy for them to stick. That's my theory anyway.</p> <p> </p> <p>Argh.. the whole underfeeding idea isn't good, coz now I fear I may overcompensate and start feeding too much. Or I would use it as an excuse for extra interaction by feeding more. </p> <p> </p> <p>Anyway, I think she's getting better. I just fed her some pellets and watched her take a whole 10 minutes to find them (after passing very close several times) and gobble them up. </p> <div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"> </div>
  2. <p>Sorry for going AWOL... 12 hours work days suck and haven't had a chance to get back on til now. Thanks to everyone's concern and advice! Update on her status, she's still alive with signs of healing on her wen and scales. Tried feeding and she seems to have found the pellets eventually. Anyone with sightless fish have good techniques on feeding?</p> <p> </p> <p>I lifted her up and inspected her today, there's a vertical line of scales missing on one side, which makes me think she got caught between something, possibly the filter intake. That may have squeezed her body too and made it look skinnier than usual... I've noticed that when she swims, her tail end seems to bend to the left. That wasn't the case before all this, her tail always moved evenly.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>I have the API drops tests, I just use the strip as back up guide and for the other tests. I just re-checked the pH (both tapwater and tank), and it appears my tapwater is at around 7 and tank water is lower. I'll try increasing water changes to get it back to normal, and if that doesn't work, I'll add something to raise it up. I heard adding seashells is better than using chemicals, is that true? Also, haven't had a need to put in a heater yet since temp has been stable within 2 degrees. With winter coming up though, I'll be doing that soon.</p> <p> </p> <p>What did u mean by quality of scales, the fact that it's raised? Yeah, she is skinny and I've wondered about that. I feed once, maybe twice a day, about a couple or so pinches of pellets. I always thought/heard underfeeding is better than overfeeding... and especially with goldfish/constipation issues I definitely don't want to overfeed.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>I was mistaken, it's actually maracyn plus, not maracyn 2, so it's not minocycline as the ingredient. I will definitely try harder at doing once weekly water changes. It's usually less than 40 though, so I'm wondering if I had a cycle bump when I changed one of my filter's out recently. I did keep the filter media though in order to try to avoid that.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>Unfortunately, can't split em up. I'll have to do more water changes or find somewhere else to put a couple of them.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>Chandler's definitely a girl (which is also why I kept the name Chandler, coz of the line "Chandler's a girl!" from Friends, lol). When she was in QT when I first got her, she actually laid eggs. And the white dots are gone so they really were bubbles.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>I use a python, or a python-like vaccuum. Can't remember the brand name. If I have a bully then the bullying must be going on when I'm not watching (isn't that always the case?). </p> <p> </p> <p> </p><p> </p> <p>Thanks! </p> <div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"> </div>
  3. Sorry, these are blurrier than I thought. Empty eye socket I think I see the scales along the bottom edge (right side of body). Back of his wen looks chewed up/frayed. Not super clear, but along her left side you can kinda see it's not a smooth line Can see the split in the dorsal Those white spots on the gill cover aren't breeding stars or ich, they're very fine bubbles.

  5. Can't find my digital camera, so I snagged my partner's iphone. Still gonna be crappy pics, but hopefully it'll be enough for now. Uploading via photobucket in a bit, then will go thru the questionnaire. Thanks for moving this Helen, I wasn't really sure if I needed to post in this section.
  6. Also, what's in common between what happened to Castiel and Chandler is that each happened soon after a water change. I dunno if it's just coincidence. It's not like I did anything out of the ordinary. *sigh... I just hope I don't have an epidemic and wake up to find another fish in bad condition.
  7. Thanks...Yeah I figured I might be jumping the gun on the antibiotic, I suppose the panic and concern took over. Castiel doesn't seem to be improving. He still acted normally the first week since I noticed the dropsy, swimming around, still eating. I finished one round of antibiotics, plus epsom salt, but the scales don't seem to have gone down at all. Now he kinda tends to bottom-sit, or float near the surface. Yes, slightly raised, not as bad as Castiel. Body's not swollen. Unfortunately, she's staying at the bottom of the tub and even with zoom, the raised scales are not very obvious in pics. But it's definitely there, believe me, I'm very paranoid about looking for signs of dropsy. I think this was why I decided to go with the antibiotic as well. Like a parent in defense mode, I was actually eyeing the other goldfish in the tank, wondering who might have possibly done it and looking to see if anyone was acting guilty. lol. But yeah, there's really no bully in the tank from what I've observed.
  8. So I get home today from work and go thru my usually routine of checkin on each of my aquariums, making sure everyone's doing good. I look over at the goldfish tank... gasp... did a double-take... and Chandler, my smallest oranda, had no eyes! I seriously gasped out loud and my jaw dropped. I almost couldn't believe my eyes. :( I read about the stories on here about fish losing their eye/s... a lot of times it seemed due to accidental damage (python, etc). This was totally unexpected and I have no clue how it happened. I didn't accidentally suck her up with the hose, I don't really sharp objects in my tank other than the rocks that the anubias are attached to. I suppose she might have rubbed up against the rock at the wrong angle, but I would think she would have just lost one eye and not both that way, not at the same time. Ugh, it seems worse not really knowing how it happened. I keep trying to think about what i may have done wrong, how I contributed to it. Grrr! She was kinda swimming at the top, scales a little raised and bubbles from the bubbler had sort of caught on to those scales. That's actually what caught my eye initially, I was wondering what the heck was on her body. Her fins are a little torn up and so is her wen. I suspect the other fish may have harassed her a bit, sensing her weakness/disability. I isolated her immediately... had no spare tanks available since Castiel is still battling dropsy in my last empty tank. Busted out a rubbermaid 15g tub, salted and put some antibiotic in, and slowly acclimated her to it. I hope she survives this whole ordeal. I also wondered if maybe she was the victim of some serious, very physical attempts at breeding. A couple of the guys have had breeding spots for a while now and though I haven't really seen any sort of breeding behavior, it very well could have happened today while at work. I dunno...
  9. shocked and speechless...

That's very possible SR. Back at my old home, my cat did the same thing and we ended up having a mouse in the wall! o.O

Maybe, but I don't think so. She's one of 3 cats and she's the only one that does it. I'm starting to think she gets hypnotized by the light pattern of a lamp shining on the wall.

I think she's sitting there thinking to herself, look how I can freak my people out tee hee :)

  11. Ugh, wish I could meet you there, but it probably wont be a trip for this year. I love Cirque, I've seen 2 of their shows in Vegas.
  12. I actually like the gw... makes the orange color pop even more. Chu's so cute!
  13. So cute, makes me want one for my pond... would be neat to have a fish looking up at me
  14. Great pics, big bob is gorgeous... and Leviathan sure is true to his name.
  15. Very nice! Lol, megaman, i thought it sounded familiar.
