Could I make a suggestion on freezing?

Try spreading your cut gel on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet and putting it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until it feels dry before placing it in containers to freeze. It keeps the cubes from sticking together later when you need them. :)

This is an excellent tip Chelsea.

Here I'm using a parchment paper covered cutting board, as the smaller board fits in my freezer better than my cookie sheet. In Step 7 I freeze the uncut slab for 20-30 minutes before I cut it. As you say, doing so it make the cubes firmer and easier to handle - and less likely to stick together in the container.

Wow this fantastic information. I am not a cook so it is all a bit of a mystery to me. I now think my first mistake was not taking the skins off the two Peppers I used in the recipe - thanks for making this information available

Agar agar can be found at stores that specialize in healthy bulk foods or your local Asian specialty grocery. It is expensive: about $3-$4 per ounce. But you'll only need a tablespoon to set a pound of gel-food.

 

If you do an Internet image search for agar agar, you'll see plenty photos of it in packaging that will help you find it on a shelf. Some Koko’s members have found it at their local health food store.  If you can only find it locally in block form you can use a blender or food processor to powderize it. And of course, buying it via the Internet is always an option.

I want to use your Agar agar gel food but my fish is a floaty fish and I'm not to sure if this would work for him and I don't know what kinds of baby food I should use? Do I have to use baby food of could I use fresh/frozen veggies?

Hi GoldfishMaiden, the recipe listed isn't particularly for floaty fish. I'm sure there is plenty of good advice on Kokos regarding food-for-floaters. Once you decide on your specific ingredients you can still use this method to make it. 

 

If you use baby food make sure it is organic and natural. I've used both apricot and a carrot/pea mix. Veggies in general are a safer and sounder choice than any fruits.
