Full Version: My Filter Is Killing My Fish?

ok, I got a 25 gallons 30x15x12 tank with AquaClear Power Filter 300, so far I got a pair of Orandas(both are 2 inches long).

I put the filter on the right hand side of the tank, when the fresh water comes out from the filther, it kind pushs the all water to the left hand side of the tank, which make my fish ALWAYS stay on the left hand side. I been watching them for a hour now, they tried to swim to the right hand side but everytime the water just push them back... I just turned off the filter, so now the fish can swim everywhere like they normally do...

What should I do? cry3.gif

I would maybe add some plants or some tall tank ornament to break up the
current (sp)some untill your fish are large enough to handle it. I think that type filter has a way to adjust water too. Either by moving the intake tube up and down maybe. Or sometimes a shorter tube helps. Dont know much about that filter.
Good luck

I do have a tall tank ornament and i tried to put it near the filter, but it doesn't help much. cry3.gif

Also I adjusted the filter to minmum already, still no good...

There must be some other way, thx for trying to help tho.

Hi,
have you filled up your tank all the way, so that when the water falls out, it is already touching the water? It reduces the pushing water effect. Have you filled your filter with sponges and media (or just sponges?) it tends to slow things down a bit too.
