Full Version: Frequent Water Change
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Water problems? Questions about water quality?
Orandaman
I am changing water 30-50% every 2 to 3 days.
It's a 10 gallons tank with 46 baby Orandas.
The tank is currently in the process of cycling.
I'm monitoring all the toxic stuff closely.

I read about this Trace Element Additive being sold.
Is this a good thing? Or, is it snake oil? unsure.gif

Where did you hear about this? Usually trace elements are only added for reef aquaria, so no, you don't need them in your goldfish tank.

10 gallon tank with 46 baby orandas?! unsure.gif Please tell me that's a typo.

I saw it in Goldfishconnection.com

Rick there usually answer questions but I haven't had a reply.

Trace element conditioner

Read about it on the link above. Tell me what you think.
Sounds like I need it cause I'm changing water very often.

Koko, have you ever heard of anyone having goldfish problems because of trace element deficiencies?

This is the first time I have seen this stuff my self. I believe there is a test kit that will test the minerals in the water to see if there at a safe level since your changing so much water with the fry. I might go that way first and then if you don't see enough for them I might go this route ??

Oh! Thank goodness!! biggrin.gif

Orandaman, trace elements are important for goldies, but unless you're using reverse osmosis water, adding extra elements is not usually necessary. Your source water will often contain everything your goldies need. If you are concerned, you can test your water's GH.

Thank you both for the great advice. I'll test the water first. Anyway, once the tank is cycled in a week or so, I won't have to change water as often. The fries are almost 7 weeks old now. I've read the first 8 weeks of the fry's development is critical to their future health.
