for those of you who use heaters in your gf tanks, how do you place the heater in your tank? do you place it vertically or horizontally? i was thinking about placing my submersible heater diagonally under the filter intake. would that be a good idea?
I remember seeing on the packaging of one of my submersible heaters 2 or 3 diagrams of how the heater can be set up, and they had it vertically and horizontally, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.
Haha, I just looked at my tank, and I have my heater diagonally under the filter output. And no problems. I think the only thing that matters is that the water is above that minimum water line.

I prefer to have mine vertically so the entire depth of the tank is heated simultaneously. I don't really think it matters, though.

I have mine vertical on the side of the tank away from the filter, but above a bubble wall so that the heat gets dispersed through the tank easier.

Diagonal is a good way to go. If placed horizontally, hiding under the heater could conceivably burn a sick or tired fish.
