I sleep days and I have my one of my tanks set up in my bedroom. I usually have the blinds closed and have dark drapes to cut down on some of the light. There aren't any fish in it yet and there is sill light comming into the room so there would be natural day and night effect--but will lack of direct/intense light affect my fish?

I brought home a rescue a few weeks ago who is living in a clear plastic tub in my bedroom and he seems to be doing fine--eventully I'll have a tank for him as well.

Am I going to have to put lights on both of the tanks when they are established or will the semi-dim lighting of my bedroom be suffient? They will be fed an adequate diet (Progold, spiralina, peas and treats)--would this help compensate for lack of bright daylight? I know tanks shouldn't be exposed to bright sunlight.
Bonkers
I would definately put lights on the tanks...the goldfish need light for the same reason we do, because they need light and dark periods to help control their biological clock, without the light they would probably be very sluggish and may die. Also, they might end up with certain vitamin deficiencies, like people do if not exposed to light. I'd say the light is very necessary

I would personally just open the blinds a bit during the day, to get some more light in the room. They don't need a light on their tank, as long as there's a cycle of light and dark. If you are considering ever getting live plants, it's probably a good idea to just get the light now. Otherwise, they should be ok.
