How do you test for salt in you water, water that is streight from you tap not in an aquarium?

a specific gravity meter. you would have to have a bucket, or jar, with clear sides, as its measured under the surface of the water.

is this gravity meater expansive and can you give me an idea of to where find one?

i bought mine at petco, for 12 dollars.
