Hi Kinguio

You can't post pics if you have less than 100 posts, that's why your pic hasn't appeared.

Can you please describe the symptoms and answer the questions in the red box at the top of this screen - that will help us diagnose the problem.

If you want to post a photo of the eye please email it to me - emma@featherpen.co.uk - and I'll post it up here for you. smile.gif

Tank size(How many Gals) = 4 Gals
How long has it been running = 6 months
Nitrite = <0,3 mg/l
How often do you change the water and how much? 15% per day
Nitrate = 50 mg/l
Filtration = 2 milleniums 2000 = 1.200 lph
Ph Level = 7.2
Water additives/conditioners = aquasafe TETRA
What do you feed your fish? = TETRA for Goldfish
Medications add to the tank? = NO
How many fish in the tank and there size? = 5 goldfishs, 3 inchs each
Any new fish added to the tank? = No

Hiya

I'm at work at the moment so will put the photo up this evening. smile.gif

However, I can say straightaway that your main problem is water quality because your tank is far too small for your fish. Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons per fish - no matter what size they are - because they produce a huge amount of wastes which quickly poison a small body of water. With 5 fish, you should have a 50 gallon tank - as a bare minimum - not a 4 gallon. That's why you have nitrite and nitrate readings like you do even after the tank has been running for 6 months - the wtaer volume is insufficient to keep the water quality stable. They also need this amount of space to grow; goldfish reach between 6 and 14" long, but if the space is cramped then their growth is stunted and their lifespan severaly shortened.

Poor water quality causes all sorts of diseases because the fish get very stressed and weakened by it. There is little value in suggesting treatments for your moor until you can improve the water quality, because he will never heal unless he has this. If you can't manage to get them a bigger tank, then I would really suggest you give the fish to a store or a friend; they will not last long in a 4-gallon I'm afraid. As an alternative, you can buy large plastic tubs (called rubbermaid tubs in the US), which - with the addition of a filter and aeration - make very good homes for fish. Would that be an option for you?

Sorry to give you the bad news! sad.gif

Hi emma,

I am sorry I made a confusion converting liters per galons. wink.gif
My tank has 100 liters or 26,42 American Gals.

I know that I have a super population and I am planing to have a bigger tank 200 liters or 52,84 Gals until the end of the year.

I am doing dayly water changes to keep the nitrate levels bellow 50mg/l.

Thanks for your advise and help and I still need a help on the eye problem.

Whew - that's a relief! lol.GIF

The nitrate level sure is high - have you got any live plants in the tank? Putting a few bunches of those in helps to bring the nitrates down. Leaving algae on the back and sides of the tank instead of cleaning it off also helps.

We'll deal with the eye prob as soon as I can get home and post the pic (just a couple of hours now until I'm home). smile.gif

Hi Emma,

I don't have any plants in the tank and It is a good advise. I will sart to look some plants. But I heard that Kingyos and Plants are very difficult to live together due the Kingyos will eat all of them.

The optimal level of Nitrate (NO3) is zero. But, My tap water + aquasafe has 12.5 mg/l of Nitrate (NO3) and I have too much fishes for my tank. Based on that, What will be the range level of Nitrate that I must to looking for in my tank??

12,5mg/l - 25mg/l ?
12,5mg/l - 40mg/l ?

Thanks!

Hiya

Here's the pic of your moor's eye (I know you sent 2 pics but this one shows it best).

Ouch! That's a poorly eye if ever I saw one. sad.gif

There are two possibilities here: that your moor banged his eye on something in the tank and physically injured it, or that he has a bacterial infection (a condition called Popeye). Is there anything in the tank - any sharp points or edges - he could have banged it on?

Goldfish will eat most plants true, but they won't usually eat Java Fern, Java Moss, Cabomba or Elodea, so you might try those. smile.gif
