My hubby needs to separate his clown loaches. He'd like to put one in w/ my apple snail, which is much bigger than the loach. However, I'm afraid the loach will try to munch on the snail despite the fact that the snail is larger. Any thoughts?

I have a loach in with a large snail and they are fine together, as long as the snail is much larger. I put the loach in the tank to eat the baby snails and it cleaned them up pretty quick.

I saw a clown Loach at Big Al's, I call them Freddy Krugar fish, because of the stripes..... spit.gif

I don't really know if a C/L would try to mow down on the snail. I would think not, but you never know, it probably depends on your loach's temperment as well.

Good luck

I know that Binky (the loach) is a voracious pond snail eater. He's definitely smaller than Gary the Snail, though. I'm mainly afraid that Binky might try for Gary's antenae.

Clown loaches can get really freaking big... I've seen 12"+ loaches @ Capitol Aquarium. That's another fear. However, I haven't any clue how long it would take little Binky to get anywhere near that size. I know the big loaches at Capitol are like 30 yrs old.
