hiya pelvis,

if i remember correctly, you were trying out a new product called "nitrate reducer". hows it working for you? also if i were to use that stuff in a lightly planted tank with added nutrients, would the nitrate reducer "eat" up any of the nutrients? namely nitrogen or micronutrients? unsure.gif

inquiringly yours,

It can be a month or longer for results to appear. I am trying both Acquamarine's Phosphate reducer and Nitrate Reducer.

Have been using Nitrate reducer for just under 3 weeks now, and Nitrates are still very high. However, the test strip I use used to develop to the highest level it could read instantly. Now it develops much more slowly, but still develops to the highest level. So I believe Nitrates are being lowered. As I said they're still high. I plan on continuing use of it.

Phosphates are another story. Before I started using Phosphate eliminator, my phospates were off the scale of the Seachem test kit I was using. Now, three weeks later, they are MUCH MUCH lower, just a little bit above the lowest "0" reading of the test kit. So that product works very well.

As far as I know these products are fine with plants and they don't touch micronutrients. In the event your Nitrates went completely to 0 (as well as Nitrites) you could always buy a product like Seachem's Flourish Nitrogen to add it back in.

You can buy all of these products from Foster & Smith.
