if your about - i really wanted to ask you a question - hope you dont mind me posting this up 4 u!?!
when i posted about the 5gallon tank i had - i was considering having a few minnows or tetras - and then you posted - you can always have a betta!!
which has sent me off on a tangent - and now i dont know what to do!
i hadn't even heard of them until you and happy goldfish (in a different thread) suggested them to me. having looked into them - and read back through posts up until aug 03 - and other websites - i really want to have one. but i really want to have one with a filtration system - and my worry is that my fluval 1 - with it being in a corner shaped tank will be too powerful for the betta. plus 'Happy" suggested having a few less minnows with a betta - would this be ok in your opinion??
i've tried to block the outlet of the fluval with some filter wool - but inevitably it keeps coming off with the water coming through.
i really dont know what to do for the best - and so still have an empty but up and running tank next to me!! huh.gif
any thoughts?? rolleyes.gif

biggrin.gif Great to hear that your considering getting a
betta they are lovely animals and are easy to take
care of and they are lots of fun.

And im glad that you are looking forward to get one.
I have mine in a filtration system.
But i always end up turning it off.
He seems to like it more with out no filtration.
The reason why i turn off my filtration is becase it makes
so muth noise and it is sutch a hard current.

My betta fish can make his bubble nest now.
Since i turned off the filter.

I would not put any minnows in with him.
I find bettas really agresive.
But you can always add some.
Don't for get it is just an opinion. rofl3.gif

But in your case i wouldn't get any.
Your already new to bettas, and im sure you will be also new
to minnows right?
They will both mostprobly want diffrent types of food.

So in your case i would get use to bettas first and then
you can add some if you would like.

(I personaly wouldn't)

Maby you can do something like me.
Every weekend i turn on the filtration.
So it cleans up the water. My betta fish looks so stressed out with the
filter,

unsure.gif I hope i helped alittle.

thanks for replying so quickly!!
thats a good idea to have the filter on part -time!
your right i would be new to minnows also - and i think the tank might actually get a bit too warm for them anyway!
i've not really seen many in the pet shops though - i've never seen any fish kept in the 'cups' that i've read about - they must be a nightmare to sell if they have to kept alone??
i'm gonna have a look this afternoon if i can get into a shop b4 they close.
thanks for your advice - i'll let you know what i do - but i do really want a betta now, having read so much on them!!
thanks

ah, that was the other thing- i've read many posts where people have been concerned about the betta getting lonely - do you not think this would be the case if he was on his own?

pumpkin
i have no idea what colour to get - they all look amazing!! i'm just gonna have to see what i can find - i have honestly never seen any fish kept in small cups or bags in any pet / aquatic store over here!?! i know i would have noticed such housing conditions cos i would have been appaulled!!
i'm not gonna have time now to look today - but i will definately post you when i've finally found one.
