Hey guys

I know this is a goldfish forum but through previous experience I know u know a little about Beta fish too. I just got my new Beta fish today and its great ohmy.gif). Certainly active but I need to know, do I turn off my undergravel filter or leave it on all night? I am about to go to sleep now and I really need to know as I am not sure if the noise of the filter prevents it sleeping ohmy.gifs. I also got this other fish with my Beta, I was told if they were introduced together then the Beta would not harm the other fish but I dont know what the other fish is ohmy.gifs. I know its a tiny little fish which is almost see through but there is a black line going from all the way down its body. All it does is stick to the glass and suck off all of the rubbish and it does the same to the gravel. I know beta's can live without the filter for a while but can this fish? Roger

no, you keep the filter on all night and all day 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
its either a pleco or algea eater that you got there i dont know if they go together or not because i never tried putting them together before.

iam sure others well have better info on the pleco or algea eater thing wav.gif

The other fish sounds like an otto. I don't know their full names but it starts with 'oto.'

The sounds of the under gravel filter should not prevent the betta from sleeping. I have one in my bettas tank and leave it on all the time and she's my healthiest betta. If however you can't sleep due to it you can bend the airtube and put a clothesline clip on it to keep it still. That will slow down the bubbles a bit and should cut down on the noise. Or if its the filter that's loud you can just slip a spounge or a folder piece of cloth under it and it helps quiet the air pump nicely. It's what I do for mine!

The previous poster was right. Your new fish sounds like an otocinclus. It is a type of small algae eater. They are very peaceful and will make a good companion for the betta biggrin.gif Bettas are usually not aggressive with other types of fish, unless they have long flowing fins, for example guppies (or goldfish).
