You all are going to be the first to see pictures of my fry! Well, after I post this I am going to post them on the koivet site to see if anyone could tell me what is going on with them LOL. They are odd looking little guys.

This little guy is blue, the darker areas you see were black but are turning dark red. Strange isn't it? It has no scales so it's Doitsu. I wish the picture was better.

Here are four, the one from above of course and three others. The largest one and one of the others has a nice blue stripe down their backs. Odd? The second to the largest has scoliosis, as you can see. I have eight fry in the house and half have scoliosis. The cute one with the orange nose and orange on the fins doesn't have a bottom to his mouth sad.gif . As you can see, he has survived and eats regularyly. Unfortantly him along with two others have deformities to their mouths. I think they are happy though, they don't seem to notice their physical handicaps smile.gif .

very nice, ive never seen them this small before
i guess that they are almost 1?
the size vary so drammatically as well as the colours
how many do you have?
are you planning to sell some or keep them?
Lachfa
Did you raise these or buy them? I bought a very small one last year and put him in the pond - he grew very quick. I hope he makes it though the winter he was a yellow/gold color when I last saw him, can't wait for spring to get here.

Scott, the color on them is great! Especially the big one! Where does Scoliosis come from? Something genetic? I had a little koi once with the bottom half of its mouth tilted slightly to the left, and as he got bigger, the tilt got worse, until it was so bad, he couldn't eat anymore, and I had to put him out of his misery....

These koi are about 6 or 7 months old. I can't keep all of them, I have 8 in the house and theres I think 4 or 5 in the pond (poor things but they refused to come in the house). I am going to find good homes for them though, if I can't I'll just have to figure out some way to keep them. I'm glad you all like them, they aren't show koi but they are cute in their own way.

Here is what these guys looked like just after they hatched.

I know not the greatest picture in the world (yet again). But here is a great site on koi spawning. It's interesting and has some good pictures as well.

Experimental Spawning

Lachfa, they were hatched in my wiskey barrel LOL, soon after they hatched I fished them out with a fine net and brought them in the house. They were soooo tine when I brough them in, I was worried that the water in the barrel might get too hot for them.

Andrea, I believe scoliosis is genetic. From what I understand most of the koi are born or hatched with deformities. These little fry normally wont make it. Of course, I stepped in and helped out these less fortunate guys by bringining them in the house. I hope that my deformed fry don't have to be put to sleep, that is sad, I do have one that seems to have a tilted mouth, where the joint of the mouth sort of tilts inward (is that what was wrong with yours?). I hope the little guy doesn't get so bad that he can't eat. I honestly don't think these deformed koi will be able to eat koi pellets, I've been feeding them brine shrimp. In the spring I am going to find out though, I am going to put them in their own little pond and see how they do. If they do alright I'll give them away. The ones that can't eat the pellets will have to come back in the house and live in the fish tank.
