I've got 4 Brochis splendens (very similar to most Corydoras), I think 2 are female and 2 are male based on size (females get bigger). Well, this morning I was feeding my fish, and found eggs stuck to the glass in about 6 different places! I saved all I could, and they're in the only container I really have right now, a 1.5 gallon thing (one of those "critter keepers"), half full... I've probably got 20-30 eggs in there.
I've been doing all the research I can, so I really don't have any questions, just wanted to brag! I never even tried to get them to spawn! The lights in the tank were out all day yesterday (I wasn't home), maybe that had something to do with it.
I've already missed my first class today, lol... at some point I have to go to the pet store and get some liquid fry food and maybe some brine shrimp eggs for later... and I'd like to get them a bucket (or a cheap 5 gallon tank, if I find one) so that I can use a heater.

Update:
Still no babies... I'm really not sure if the eggs are fertilized or not. They're definitely a clear-ish yellow, and not fungused... so I know I have healthy eggs. Just don't know if I'll get babies. The water WAS very cold (under 70) for the first day or so, maybe that slowed them down.
Being a bio major, I wish these were frog or sea urchin eggs, I know exactly what those look like when fertilized, lol. Maybe I should bring one in to school and check it under a microscope, see if I can tell that way.
I've got the eggs in a 3 gallon "tank" (ok, actually a rubbermaid dish pan, it was a good size for me and it's made to be filled with water so it's pretty sturdy), with a thin layer of gravel, and an air pump set up in a way that it's almost a homemade sponge filter, and a heater made for a 10 gallon tank. I bought one of those 7.5 watt heaters from nooppee, but it wasn't heating the water at all, so I'm using this heater, which has worked perfectly in the past, so hopefully it wont be a problem.
I'll let you know if anything changes!

Eggs hatching!!!! yay!!!
This morning I looked into the "tank" and saw that some of the eggs looked weird... then I realized they were open and empty. I only managed to see one baby fish, the tub is white and there's some gravel, so the rest blend in or hide. They're soooo tiny!
This is so exciting! And in a couple of days I can start feeding them, and that will be fun! I'll have to start hatching some brine shrimp soon!

Pictures would be great
Well, they're still too small for pictures... they're about half a centimeter.... but that's mostly tail length, and their tails don't even show up in pictures. So I end up with a little brownish dot that looks nothing like a fish, lol.
This morning I managed to count over 10 little babies... I swear I find more of them every day! I can't tell if they're eating, which worries me a little.... I've been feeding liquid fry food and tried baby brine shrimp for the first time today. But they're so active, they need to be getting the energy from somewhere!

Thats so exciting! Im not familiar with that type of cory, do you have pics? I just love cories. I have several in my 30 gallon and so far have not seen any eggs at all. I cant wait to see pics of your little ones, they sound just adorable!
Ahhh! So many babies!!! lol
I've managed to count 20 at a time, but they're getting much more active, so it's harder to count them. I think I took out about 30 eggs, and over 20 hatched. And honestly, I just put them in that plastic dish pan with some gravel and an air pump and a heater made for a 10 gallon tank. I've been doing 10-20% water changes, and I don't do anything special, just take some water out and add some. And all the breeders who write about these fish say that a hatch rate of 50% is pretty good, and they do all kinds of fancy stuff. Maybe they're trying too hard, lol.
jsrtist, I posted a pic in this section of the message board called "cutest pic of my cory" or something... I think that one is a female, but the females look a lot like the males, just bigger. They're so shiny and green... some of the most colorful freshwater fish I've seen! Other than goldfish, of course!
