Hello,
I have a one gallon tank, which is not heated. I was told at the pet store that guppies can live in a room temperature enviornment. Would my tank be able to support a few guppies? Thanks,

Since guppies are live breeders i would
recommend at least a 10 gallon for guppies.
Unless you get only males or only females.
But in this 1 gallon tank is there a filter?
I wouldn't think so right......
Maby it's not the best idea.

My one gallon has an airstone filter system. I don't think it would be a good idea to breed them. But, I wonder if it is possible to have a couple males? Can they do ok in a non-heated, 1 gallon tank?
Thanks

Im not the best when it comes to guppies.
But i wouldn't i would at least get a 5 gallon.
A 1 gallon for me is not good for 1 betta fish.
So acouple of guppies wouldn't be good.(in my case)
Do you another size of Aquarium?

Hi,
I have a 1.5 gallon with a betta, a 2 gallon with a small oranda (mad at myself for buying him and putting him in such a small tank), and the empty 1 gallon. Yeh, I might just put a betta in the tank. Thanks

you should consider buying at least a 10 gallon they cost about 60$
It would be best.for the health of your fish.

WOW a 2gallon for an oranda is not the best idea get the oranda a 10 gallon becuase i can garuntee that it will not live very long on a 2 gallon.
this will help in some problems in sizes.

I must agree, and many people think it's by the size of the fish.
No it is not "10 gallon rule" is even not the best.
MMINIMUM!

Jen,
Guppies are tropical fish so your unheated tank would be inappropriate. Also, many times if you buy a female she is already pregnant. I would go with a larger tank, with a heater, good filtration system, etc.

And don't forget guppies get lots of babies.
So you must have a place to put the fry while they are to small.

I wouldn't put any fish in a 1 gallon. I don't think I would even be willing to put water in it! It is way too small for any animal to be happy in.

I've heard guppies are fine in a non heated tank and that's what I have mine in. I have 1 2.5 minobow with a spongefilter. I have two female guppies in it. One is a little bugger though and beats up the other one so I have a divider in between them right now until I can find something for Mrs. Evil Guppy.

I think it's plain wrong to keep any animal in something so small.
Also, guppies are tropical fish and so they need a heater to survive. They can survive without a heater for a short time but will be subject to disease and lethargy.

Let me add my two cents. It's been a looooong
time since I kept tropical fish, but I do remember
that the general rule was 1 inch of fish per gallon
of water, heated and filtered with a minimum of a
5 gallons tank. I could be wrong, but that rings a
bell with me.
