I added new calico fantail 6 days ago and voila today I wake up for my daily close observation and what do I find on the black moor??????!!! white spots!! *hurray* NOT!!! *sigh* cry3.gif ill.gif

I noticed the other fish, it seems all of them have the spots except the new fish!!!!

I bought Anti White Spot plus med and I have added it to the tank. I need to repeat on Tuesday and then wait 7 days before a 30% water change...

can someone please tell me that they've cured Ick successfully? it is said that its the most common disease so you'd think u'd be able to cure it!!!!

The fish seem fine other than the spots, and their fins are upright as if they are completely happy. thank god I just changed the water yesterday so they can go on with their meds.

I'm rather attached to these lil things!!!!

Thanks all
Lydia

The fish should be fine. The Interpet med you've used is usually pretty good at zapping the ich.
jamieross
loads of fish get ick youll pull through
Lydia
ok phew!!!!! hehe i don't know what i'd do without these lil fishies.

i give them kissies through the glass smile.gif always come and stick their lil mouths where i kiss biggrin.gif

Do you have an pictures?

Ich is always in your water, it just waits until a fish is stressed or has a weak immune system to rear it's ugly head.

I have used salt to cure it successfully. Since you've started the meds, finish that treatment. If that does not work, I'd try the salt.

Cover the tank during the treatment and keep the lights off. The ich needs light to reproduce.

It may look worse before it looks better as well.

Yes I have pictures smile.gif they are posted in the Pictures forum!!!!

I need to add some more.. might do them later today to add the new calico beauty hehe its a lil fishie that one!!!!

--

I was unsure about light.. I remember vaguely reading this before.. Since the meds only time they can kill that nasty Ich is when its free flowing I thought maybe the light might speed it up, as it is bound to raise the temperature of the tank as well..

I think some dots fell off but I think what I am noticing now is some white bit where they fell off as if wounds..

I'm very worried now that they are getting the cotton wool type of fungus.. but I can't treat for that until after 7 days of the last treatment. unless its just how its supposed to look where the things drop off.

cry3.gif

Any clues????

I know that most reasons of ilness is when u have bad water but the day before they got this I did a big change with water I matured from day before.. I now think it might be that nasty water... where I live is known for the not so good water *sigh*
Lydia
oh grrrrrrrr

there is one of the common goldfish that is such a scaredy fish!!!! as soon as it seems someone walking it sometimes gets so scared tries to run and hide often either rubbing itself on glass/gravel or stick in some holes.

what did he do today? well it got scratched a lil bit of its head.

I dont want to put anymore meds in tank *sigh* so I hope it heals fine.

I shut off the light I just hope they don't get so unused to not having it that we will go over the i'm afraid of you phase again!!!!!

We don't have Melafix here.. all I have found that reportedly cures things is the Stress Coat which I am not too pleased with.. anyone used it and likes it?
koko
Well the scrating is due to the Icks they make the fish twich alot. When your ever treating with ick make sure you keep the lights off the ick guys need this for reproduction.

Also Im wondering what the Water quality is?
Ammonia,
Nitrites?
and Nitrates?
Lydia
Yes and no!

I did notice them 'itching' I think it was day before..

But one of the fish is really scaredy.. each time something changes we go through this I hate you phase where it tries to hide and sometimes hurts itself cry3.gif

I think its just in its nature to be like that.. I usually judge things by the Black Moor and the other commons behaviour cause they are more stable!

I just did a test smile.gif

we have:

25-50 Nitrates
0 Nitrites

GH is 16od (always this high, its the water here never changed and never seemed to bug them at all!)

KH is abot 6od - 10od (again always same)

and 8.0 ph roughly (hard to distinguish between them)

And lastly ammonia is 0.

Exactly as it has been for the past few weeks :/ thats what gets me on why they are sick now *shrugs*

What is your thought about having fungus?? its not exactly cotton wool its like (im going to be disgusting here, excuse me) when you wiped ur nose on ur dark clothes when little? and it was like this white thing LOL im so sorry don't know how else to explain it.

When I tried to close the light the fish (commons) immediately hid and were sitting on bottom.. once I turned it on they were swimming happily :// I think tomorrow I will just leave it closed all day.. and then on Tue they get their next meds dose and hopefully this will zap it all.
koko
That acutally sounds to me like the slim coat is getting over done. How long have these fish been together?

If you dont see an improvent with the salt I would go with Rid-ick and see if that will help. biggrin.gif The light thing might just be cause there not feeling good. When you have ick, its very good to just keep the lights off anyway cause the ick needs the light to reproduce anyway. So I would just keep them off. Sounds like your water is good. biggrin.gif
Lydia
ohhhh I hope its just that and not something more serious

I haven't added salt I'm on Interpet's Anti White Spot.

I read that Stress Coat replaces their slime.. so i will be adding that once we're done with treatment to let them calm down a little. whats your thoughts?

I will leave lights off tomorrow and see how they go!!
koko
I would do the IAWS then do a gravel siphon of 40% then let the tank sit for atleast 2 days this will give them chance to heal on there own biggrin.gif

Then I would see how they are before you add more stuff to them biggrin.gif If they seem to have problems lets see what they are biggrin.gif
Lydia
yep!! thats the plan smile.gif

meds again on day 4 and then after 7 days need to do a 30% change. as per meds instructions.

the good thing is that I just cleaned the tank before the outbreak so the water won't get too stinky for the poor fishies.

I don't want to do any changes before meds are done in case I interrupt their healing period.

a lot of spots from Moor have fell off already...

i'll keep you posted how it goes...

oh btw I need to e-mail ya smile.gif I did something for you hehe..
Lydia
posting the image in here as well... this is the white thing I was talking about...

the white blob isn't that obvious I think it was just the flash making it too much.. but the bit on the left of the blob is what its there...

I think I notice the same where the other spots were, so it might be just their slime coating wearing thin as you said.
koko
Tha looks like a break in the fin or alittle bit of fungus. If the other salt dots are gone I would try some Merchrome on the spot. What you want to do is get a q-tip and then dip it in the stuff and then gently swab the area with it and see if that will help. See if that will clean it out.

Lydia
its not a break but I think it appears to have started a fungus to where the spots have previously been. OR his slime coat has worn thin..

I think the other fish was nibblin on him a while.. he acts fine.. fin straight up.

Can I add fungus meds in the tank when I'm treating for Anti Spot? or would salt work?

>merchrome < I have no idea what that is... or where I would go on getting it..

Any clues?
Lydia
I picked fish today *shudders* to check it closer.. the lil sort of fuzzy (its not cotton wooly but then I don't know) dropped off.. the black moor is just fine..

Spots seem to be going off....

I have bought Supa Tonic Salt (Suitable for Fresh Water Aquariums)

Says.. treatment of fungus- to combat fungus and other diseases, use a dilution of one teaspoonyful of salt to 5 litres of water and increase to two teanspoonsful per 5 litres on the second day. Change the solution daily keeping a careful check on water temperatures to avoid fluctuations...

I am confused on that..... I think it says (what i understand) is that for 5 litres of water u need 1 teanspoonful..... so if u have 80L then u need 16 of them yes?
Then on following day u need 12??? isn't that too much?? lol

Also... I don't want to be changing water and adding salt every day.. salt isn't going anywhere unless you remove water so I think the taking out and puting in thing is useless.

The shop proposed I take out the black moor and give it baths but I am terified to do that. I don't want to stress him to death. being handled was enough stressing to both of us. i love that lil monkey to death hehe
HappyGoldfish
That spot doesn't look like ich. Is this what the other spots looked like? Are you positive it was ich that your fish had?

Is the STS just plain salt or is it a salt-containing med?
Lydia
Yes I am positive that other spots were ick they were like white dots.
( i checked images)

And this spot thing is one off and it appeared after we started treating the ick.

When I handled the fish it dropped off somehow and now its in another place. However weird that is... I'm wondering if its those suckers trying to re attatch themselves I dont know...... I also noticed something like skin flying in the tank...

I hope salt will take care whatever is attatching itself in my lil fishie.. stupid parasites!!!!!

No mention of Meds in Salt.. just tonic salt...

it even mentions being good to brime shrimp eggs and sterilizing...

inside its like lil salt lumps (circular)
finny
make shure it isn't ich my goldie has it & she nearlie died this morning blink.gif
Lydia
they have ick already but they're lost all their spots now.. I've already given the last dose of that smile.gif

we now have further probs to worry about on the Black Moors tail.
