are you filling it with water or turning it on then putting water in ??? I have an aqua clear that will only start empty and I put water in it right away while it is trying to suck the water up....it is very finicky i,f it turns off it takes 7 tries or I wait a couple hours
i've tried everything! im about to try it again soon cuz i havent tried it today.

UGH! I am so sick of the power outages aren't you? Every night I hear lightening now and I am thinking "please no!!!". I used to LOVE thunderstorms and now I sit there thinking about how quickly I can get something running for the fish LOL.
I have a filter that takes a bunch of tries to turn on too Heidi. Except mine started acting that way when I once accidentally turned it on with NO water in it. Now I have to switch it on and off a few times and "feed" it a flow of water and it will go on... eventually. ***edit: which is basically what yours sounds like it does but mine won't work if I start it completely empty. Full THEN keep pouring***It's not in a main tank so its not a huge deal.
I hope it starts working Shamu. Sounds like this is the last thing you need right now! Maybe u can use your report card to your advantage if you get a good one, and you can convince your parents to get u a new filter. By your age I am assuming high school so it may be a bit old to play the "mom buy me something for good grades" card, but I milked that one right up through senior year! Actually my mom lives with me so I still use the "I'm really sad today-you should treat me to Chinese food". LOL It still works on occasion lol When it doesn't I get my daughter to join in. Gram can't deny us when BOTH of us are frowning. LOL (But then I just have to treat her next week so...)
lol well, i might already get an ipod AND maybe new light strips for my 125 (cheap ones lol, she's only maybe doing that cuz she loves live plants and that way i could keep more lol) idk if i can get her to buy me anything else.

well, even if you cant get the filter to work, the whole thing isnt junk, just the motor is. Im sure there are replacement motors avalible so you dont have to spend alot of money on a whole new filter.
yeah good idea maybe i could find a cheap motor for it, at least my aquatech filter that i replaced it with for now is still running
