I went to the end of the year meeting of our aquarium society (my first time!) and they had a big auction. I didnt stay for the whole thing cuz we were gonna watch a movie. The fish went for crazy cheap amounts! An electric blue lobster (think thats wat it was called) for $10!! And bags of 5 chichlids for 1-3 dollars etc. I bid for only one bag of fish and got it! So I got 2 albino bristlenose plecos for $6!!!!! I named the smaller 1 Prickly, the other has no name yet. They're in qt now, poor things had to b in a bag from before 1 till 8, luckily they had a special bag that releases C02. here's some pics!

Yes fish auctions are great!
Several years ago I had the time of my life at a fish auction put on by the Chicago Area Cichlid Club.
My brother and I spent all day buying cichlids.

At the time my brother owned a pet store - and he bought around 300 fish that day.

I think I bought about 50. (I had 3 new 55's and 3 new 25's ready to stock.)
Drove up to Chicago (~3 hours), spent the day buying fish, then headed back home after dark.
I was up until 3AM acclimating fish!!!!!!

Only lost 1.

I'd love to find a GF auction somewhere near.

Wow, I got my bristlenose at an auction too! He was 1$, but he's not an albino. Albinos go for 15$ a pop at my LFS.

Up here there is only one store that carries them. About a year ago they went for $9.99, last month the price was up to 32.99, and thats for the 1 in guys that are too small to sex yet. The biguns can go for over $50.

wow! Im glad i went to the auction! Our lfs dont even stock albinos and rarely bristlenose plecos at all, mostly commons and clown plecos occasionally

thanks. Alex that qt tank is my 3 gallon leaking betta tank, as long as i dont fill it alll the way it wont leak so im using it for qt

their qt ends this sunday! Both seem healthy and active!
