So i really want to begin to set up my 65 gallon one problem the area it is in is unleveled.

So how could i level it?

My dad considered using a piece of plywood? so would that work?

use the plywood under the stand or whatever is supporting the tank. use shims or something else till its level. carpet, especially when its by the wall, is normally off a little. you dont wanna put anything physically under the tank itself. you run the risk of doing damage, like the glass cracking or the seems busting from the uneven pressure. hope you get it level soon

If the tank is on a stand that is on carpet, it is recommended that you place something under the legs of the stand. This can be as big as a piece of plywood or as small as blocks of wood. This will stabilize the tank on the carpet.

If you have a good wood floor or a good asphalt tile, you may wish to put blocks under the stand, too. The "pinpoint" pressure of the legs can make a mark on the floor. The larger the pieces, the more of the weight of the tank will be distributed - preventing marks and indentations.

As far as leveling the tank on the stand, I have found that I do one or two of several things. Many of my stands are homemade - and I top them with pieces of 1/2 plywood covered with fabric that has a print of stone or such on it (barebottom tanks). This is a great solid base and "leveler" for a tank that is square and a stand that is level. If your tank is not necessarily squared, the best thing I have found is to get a sheet of 1/4 inch foam board. Cut to just larger than the tank, this, too, can be covered in decorative fabric. As the tank is filled, the weight will squish the foam into a custom fit support for the tank, leveling as you go.

Most of my tanks are unlevel, for some of the ones that were really unlevel so that one edge of the tank was not even touvhing the stand I used a lid from a honey jar and one of my 10 gallons was like that after we had filled it, my mom thought it would level out cuz its on carpet but it didnt so I put some newspaper directly under the tank

well right now i have the empty tank being leveled by some folded pieces of paper....

IMHO whatever you do should be sturdy. Newspaper, etc will compress and degrade over time and poorly distribute the weight, whereas wood or tile will not and will help spread out the weight.

I am just going to place a small piece of plywood in the unleveled spot
