I have a full bottle of Coralife Kalkwasser Plus Supplemented with Strontium and Iodine that I bought for my reef tank. Now I dont have a reef tank, so I am thinking to use it on my GF tank to raise the ph before the w/c.

what do u think?

Calcium Hydroxide? I know it's used to provide calcium for shell-building marine animals, I'm not sure what concentrations are safe for freshwater fish and goldfish. It will definitely work for adjusting the pH up. (at saturation, it gives a pH of 12)

I'd rather use baking soda: it's what people here on Koko's recommend for short-term pH fixes. Maybe somebody else will be able to help you a bit more.

Yes, baking soda - that's what I used to use before I was on a well.

I use baking soda too. I figure I have full bottle (16 oz) of the Kalkwasser is going to waste it, why not just use it on my GF tank.

Well, maybe it's a bit of risky for the GF.

yep I would think way to risky ..what is your ph now vince..if it is all over you will need to stabilize you kh...adding somthing that could swing it immensly will cause severe stress on a goldfish .. smile.gif ..if you are 7 or above and stable I would not mess with it

My water has a PH of 7.6. If I really going to try the Kalkwasser, I would definitely make sure the PH is at 7.6 before dump it into the tank. The thing that I'm worry about is all the supplements that comes with the Kalkwasser, not sure those ingrediences will alter the chemistry of the water for my GF.

Oh well... using baking soda would give me a peace of mind. exactly.gif

7.6 is a good ph I would not mess with it it's if it sits below 7 I would worry
