I feed ProGold from GFC, peas, and oranges. Tried lettuce and spinach but they weren't having any of it.
For my fry I'm really liking frozen baby brine shrimp and frozen daphnia.

I have found that my larger goldfish will eat 1/16th of an inch snippets of julienned (say 1/16th to 1/8th inch wide) raw carrot.

i switch their feeding up so much they dont know whats coming lol. the main staple is omega one small sinkin pellets but they also get tetrafin crisps, peas, ground beef (one of their favs), hai feng fast color and quick grow pellets(mixed), hikari oranda gold pellets(halved), along with some other veggies. they stay as far as they can from lettuce (no matter what type i put in there), and for treats i give them hikari brine shrimp or hikari bloodworms. all that i have mentioned, they greedily eat once it breaks the plain of the water. i havent tried beans yet, or spinich since im not the biggest fan lol

dandy orandas (dandyorandas.com) sells a food called aquadyne. It is a mixed blend that has the texture of cornflakes but does not dissolve like regular flake food does. I like that along with hikari sinking and hikari blood worms along with peas and zucchini

Of course they love peas too.

IMO feeding medicated foods when your fish are not actually sick is a
VERY BAD IDEA. It's the same as if you take aspirin without an ache, suphedrine without a cold, or penicillin without an infection. Your body would become tolerant to those medicines, so then when you are actually sick, they will not be as effective. Also, the baddies will mutate and become tolerant to it as well. Real life example: penicillin was so widely and overused that now infectious bacteria are almost all immune to it.
I would NEVER recommend feeding an anti-parasite or anti-bac food without actual symptoms of a parasitic or bacterial infection. The medication can be harsh on your fish--
unnecessarily so if they are not sick.

Thanks for the input about not feeding healthy fish medicated foods. I'm sure you are right now that I think about it.

New Life Spectrum is the best pellet fish food IMO, any fish including goldfish, would do well eating just that, with nothing else. Here's my list of favorite brands for my large Ryukin...
New Life Spectrum- Any formula-large 3MM size (Or 5MM)
Dainichi- Another top fish food.
Omega One- large Goldfish pellets
Pro-Gold- large Pellets
Hikari- Lionhead only, because they sink. I don't feed it these days, because they're only 2MM pellets.
I mostly feed NLS or Omega One, but I'd say that all of these brands are good.

I feed....
Omega One small sinking goldfish pellets is my staple food
Hikari Wheat Germ pellets. I have to soak these though as they don't sink. Bit big for my babies though. But after some "chewing" they're cool with it.
Algae Wafers. Originally bought for the snail (who recently died T.T), but the goldies eat em all up first. I use these as a bit of a "treat"
Hikari Freeze Dried Spirulina - twice a week.
shelled peas, lettuce bits, celery leaves, random leafy greens from the kitchen.
I'd like to try some of the more expensive foods from GC, but haven't gotten around to it. And they looove what I feed now haha. Then again, goldies love everything that they think is food wether it be actual goldfish food to random things like my fingers! XD

Oddly enough most of the pro gold that I have is not that large even when my Moon was an ince long he could still eat it.
Since a lot of you like Hikari and I can get that locally I may get that when my pro gold is all gone.

I was wondering today whether gf would enjoy / could be given mais (corn?), after having boiled it and squeezed out the inside like you do with peas of course. I don't think it would be bad for them (although maybe doesn't have the right nutrient mix), but I'd never want to try and find out if I'm right. Anybody got any idea?

You can feed carps corn (boiled) to attrack them to a fishing spot, but the nutrient balance is not really good for them. If you only feed with corn, the fish will get sick. I don't know if it is a good idea to feed gf corn (I first read gf as "girlfriend", I thought: "Huh, does Erinaceus want to feed Quasi corn???

).

Yeah, I mainly thought of it as a 'treat', like a piece of orange and such. It's always fun to see how they react to something new ^_^

I had that problem as well at first (why are all these people talking about their girlfriends?

). And yes, I wouldn't mind feeding Quasi corn, but not Miki, 'cause she really doesn't like corn at all

I on the hand love it

(hence my desire to share it with our gf

)

You can always try it ofcours, if you just want to feed it as a treat. And if they don't like it, I will share it with you can I love it!!! I can make some really nice crab-corn soup

But it will have to wait untill the anaestethic of the dentist dissapears

(can't eat anything = DISASTER!!!)
But, to get back on topic: I bought dried cubes of tubifex today to use as a treat and to "tame" them.

Well, just like any parent, what you want your children to eat and what they will eat is another question. My gf prefer flakes, I think cuz they're light and float around the tank for a long time so they don't get lost in the gravel and they can take their time feeding longer... but, their number one favorite food is oranges! Man, they go crazy for oranges!

We tried oranges for the first time after we had moved our biggest 2 into the new 70 gal tank, but hadn't yet moved the other six. When we threw it in, it was like a school/flock/pack(?) of piranhas going after a piece of raw meat. I'm still sorry I wasn't able to take a picture at that moment

I use mainly Mazuri Gel Food! It is easy to make, VERY good for them & easy to store!! I make a one month batch at a time & keep it in the freezer. I put some in a little container in the frig so I always have some that is thawed.
I also toss in veggies & fruit.....what ever I am fixing I chop up a bit for them!

I just switched to Aqueon Goldfish flakes as my staple. The first ingredient is whole salmon. I can tell they like it much better than the food I was giving them. They go crazy for it! I was using Wardley Essentials but then I realized it was mostly wheat. I plan on switching to a high quality pellet food like Hikari once they've grown a little more. I also give them peas twice a week which they love and I recently started giving them bits of orange as a treat which they also love. I'm pretty sure they would eat just about anything I put in the tank

My guys really like Nutrafin floating pellets. They're only small so the pellets are a good size food for them. It's funny seeing them during feeding time, I have to lift up the hood of my tank to drop the pellets in and it makes a noise whenever I do and the fish recognize it and all swim to the top and start poking their heads out of the water because they know they're getting food! Haha
