I own 3 females myself, but I was wondering if anyone else owns some? Did you buy them or catch them?

There are some mosquito fish in the pond at my school, and since it is humid there are lots of mosquitos.

I will admit, I had never heard of mosquito fish before. I am going to have to research them.

I have plenty of mosquitoes though, haha.

i've owned them on and off for a few years now. They are good bug eaters but they are vicouse with any other fish. They strip the fins off of Texas black stripe bull head minnows, and they are 3 times bigger!

Yeah. My 3 killed about 60 guppies over the period of a month, as well as a female beta and a loach. They're in "jail" now, by themselves in a 1 gallon.

Yes, they are aggressive and prolific breeders. We got some years ago with some pond plants from a neighbor, and they have taken over our pond. Around here, the mosquito abatement team puts them in every holding pond and waterway. They are awful fish in the sense that they overtake any body of water and can actually harm the native fish.

They are also known by their scientific name, Gambusia affinis. If anyone wants some, please come take mine. They are yours!
Ponderosa Power
I had one once. Rescued from the ecology class back in highschool.
