Hello everyone!

I've finally moved my trops out of their 18gal and into a lovely big 40gal tank. I currently have 4 Danios and 2 Bronze cories in there, and was wondering what other fish I could house with them and how many I can have.

I will be getting four more cories (Albinos and pandas) but as for the others I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you

No, there isn't. i've bogwood but no plants.

Hmmm..... Such possibilities with a big tank!

I agree with filling out your group of cories. smile.gif I would also get more danios, so you have a school of 6-7.

You could get a large group of tetras..... maybe 10 of a smaller variety (neon or cardinal), and 7-10 of a larger variety (glow-light, serpae, etc.)

Getting tetras would mean adding plants (fake or real) to give them more cover.

Here's a couple of websites to help give you some ideas: Badman's Tropical fish <-- has very detailed information on specific fish

And FishLore <-- has quick stats on each fish

Hope this helps, and good luck!

My serpae and redeye tetras nipped the fins on my cories so I took them to my little lfs where they resell fish. I think neons and maybe some of the other small tetras might be ok, but I don't have any experience with them.

You could get even more bronze cories--they like to schoal in the wild and prefer their own type. They will get along with all other types of cory but probably not schoal.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i like the idea of neons or cardinals. I've looked at pics of them both online but can't really see what the difference between them is.

I also think i like platies and mollies. is there any problems about keeping them with danios tetras and cories?

I recently learned the difference between neons and cardinals. The cardinals have a deeper red, and most importantly, the line travels the full length of their body. The red line on neons is shorter.

I have kept danios together with mollies and/or platies with no problems.

Danios are a very active fish, so you want to keep that in mind when selecting another species of fish to cohabitate with them. Some types of tetras are more shy & may be 'intimidated' by the more active danios. But....I have kept danios in my trop tank since day one and love them. biggrin.gif Oh, and your cories should be fine with them as well. Just provide plenty of caves/hiding spots for them to duck into.

thank you for your advice. I've been looking at my tank and think that it does need my hidy holes and plants. I've a large mango root orniment that I can add to the tank and will buy some more plants later.

My local store are having a sale this week and have neons priced at 5 for £4 and have some lovely Julli (sp?) Cories so I think I may be adding to the tank this weekend.

Do they have Pictus Catfish where you are at?
They are great. I have had them with goldfish but not with tropicals.
They are black and white with spots - and have long-long white "whiskers" almost as long as their body. (Body is about 3 inches long - isn't that about 9 cm?)
If you have more than one, they usually travel around together in a school.

I think if I were going to set up a tropical tank I'd go with some fancy guppies too.

Hello everyone!

I only got 2 Julii cories, they had sold out of neons by the time I got there. I really like cories, especially how they wizz around.

Thank you for the comments. I didn't see any Pictus Catfish. They do look nice though.

Ooooooo I love cories!! In one of our tanks we have one emerald green corie & 4 schwetzelli cories. Way too fun to watch and sometimes you will notice that they can wink.

Glo Light Tetras are super cool-with their glowing orange eyes. Neon Tetras are my favorite (have 11). Larger Congo Tetras are neat with their little flags on their dorsal fin. The albino congo tetras have bright orange stripes. If you haven't have loaches before you may want 5 or so like clown or skunk. They compliment cories nicely. Check out Rainbows-quite beautiful fish with amazing colors & finally most barbs, platys, swordtails would round out for a nice aquarium.

Let us know what lucky fish come home with you on your next visit. smile.gif

I'll let you all know.

I intend to keep the tank understocked and add the new occupants gradually. Will try to get some pics of the new fish shortly.

In my opinion, Mollies do not go well with tetras. Mollies prefer a rather hard water, and while salt is not nessecary, it acts as an excellent buffer, without changing the PH. Tetras prefer soft water, and generally cannot stand salt.
