I was reading about the insane temps over in the California region, and I as I was doing dishes (I was washing dirty ice trays) I thought - why can't you put dechlorinated water in the trays and use them to help cool the tank water? And for bigger tanks, you could use empty Betty Crocker icing containers. You could even put treats in the water! I know that my fish love frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms.
Since it would be harder to dose declorinator for a 1 gallon bucket, I'd do it during waterchanges and fill a couple trays or a few of those small tubs. If you don't have an ice-maker in your freezer and have to use ice trays anyway, it would probably be a good idea to get the fishies their own color to avoid confusion biggrin.gif
I don't have a problem with the tanks over-heating or anything (I don't think it's even gotten past 75* F here) so I don't have any need for them.

Wouldn't it be easier than a frozen water bottle?

It might sound stupid, though. It was just a thought. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good idea to me! (Like you, I wouldn't need to cool the water, since my fish tanks are kept inside in our finished basement). Putting the treats in the ice is a neat idea too. thumbsup.gif

Come on guys, it's 102 degrees... no one wants to come over here!? I personally just use the ice bottles. I like them because I can easily rotate and reuse them between all my tanks, including the crab tank.

But I like your idea!

I just thought that it would be easier in some ways, but I know they both have their pros and cons. biggrin.gif

I was thinking about doing this for my marine tank... I guess I'll do it next time.
