As many of you know I have two 5" lionhead in my 20g tank. I noticed one of them has developed a tiny red dot (tumor) or just a wen development at edge of the gill plate. Since they are lionheads, their gill plates are covered with Wen. So I wondering if this new development of the red spot is normal or not.

The water is fine because I have been doing 80-90% w/c once a week. The fish looks fine too. Am I over reacting?

well I wouldn't jump to tumor ..but maybe salting will help ..any chance of her scratching herself..or himself on somthing??..pics would be great .. ..but when I see a potential sore or scratch I do a waterchange and salt and keep my eye on it and see if it developes into somthing more and test the water a bit more smile.gif

No scratching so far. But I will definitely keep an eye on him.

Thanks hi-d

I'm pretty sure wen growth starts out as white spots, not red.

Ok, so my fish have a bacteria infection then? I been doing large amount of w/c weekly, why am I still experiencing this problem..?

I have brownish color algae almost covered the buttom of the tank.. could they be the breeding ground of the bacteria? I try to get some green algae, no luck so far.

32Bit, you'll need to answer as many as the questions in the white box at the top of the page so that the moderators can help you diagnose.

brown algae can hold bad bacteria..my Oranda Jelly has in the past developed a little red dot in his wen ..it can be serious or it might not ..but it just didn't go away overnight all I did was keep the water pristine and salted ..and it eventually healed up ..if you can take a pic for a mod to see, that would help immensly ..do you think it is getting worse or staying the same ?Is he acting normal?I know you are doing big waterchange which is great ..maybe do 50% eveyday for the next 4 days ..and see how that goes .. I would post your water paremeters anyways ..they will want to know regardless of your large waterchanges .. smile.gif

I started salt and Prazi treatment on the tank last night and figure it wouldn't hurt to give a Prazi treatment. I will test the water after the w/c tomorrow. It's hard for me to take the pics on a such small spot on a fish and he is not stand still..

Today is the 7th day since last w/c and I tested water. Here are the parameters:
Temp: 72F
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
PH: 7.6
Nitrate: 15

Currently I added salt and Prazi in the water. 0.2% salt treatment and Prazi treatment for 2 days.

The red dot is getting smaller after I added salt/prazi and it seems disappearing. I'm not sure whether the salt or prazi is eliminating the red spot in the wen area.

I'm glad it's getting better ..salt does more than you know biggrin.gif
