Full Version: Mating Behavior Or Not?

I have a 55 gallon currently filled with my telescope named Beaver, my large white comet Calicifer, and two small fantails Pumpkin and Puff.

Beaver and Calcifer are the oldest fish, the person who gave them to me said that they were over three years old at least. (That was the amount of time he had them)

Lately Calcifer has been chasing Beaver. Not abusive chasing either (like fin-nipping and etc), but Calcifer will nudge Beaver on the sides and continue chasing. This has been going on for days. I noticed Beaver has become more round as well.

Does this sound like mating behavior?

I should also mention that this behavior seems to happen more when the weather is warm. For instance, we had a 70 degree weather for a few days and they were engaging in this behavior like crazy. Beaver didn't get plump though, and the behavior stopped when the weather dropped back down to the lower 60s.

Calcifer: (forgive the spots and smudges, combination of messy tank glass and camera lens)

Oh wow, I'm so excited!

tongue.gif I better start cleaning up my ten gallon so I can move the eggs in there* once I get any.

Eggs are only moveable if they are stuck to something you can move. I suggest that you put in some low plastic plants (soft) or breeding mops to catch eggs. You can then move them easily to a hatching tank.

GOod luck. smile.gif
