I was looking around for plans for DIY filters, and came across this person's rather remarkable setup. They used what appears to be a heavy-duty lidded storage bin, and have all their tanks plumbed into it... the water flows into a filter-pad covered basket, and is pumped back out through one large hose.

The only thing about sumps is I have found they really smell bad. I don't know if its just my set up but I have stopped using the sump because of the sulfur smell. I couldn't control it. It seems the anaerobic bacteria love sump life Or maybe I had it set up all wrong. Either way, bad experience here for me wth sumps
