my silver lyretail molly had babies!!!
this is sooo exciting!!!

so um what do i need to do for them?
do i need to put them in a breeder net so the moms and dads and my PLECO doesn't eat them??

eek! i'm in a panic!
they're hiding under some small rocks right now, and are all over the tank...
what do i do?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
the virile male i got is still makin' babies with all the ladies. yeah.gif
hahahaha...
You definitely have to put in a breeder net as livebearers will eat them. Pretty sure pleco will eat them too. Congrats btw smile.gif
Tinkokeshi
thanks... biggrin.gif
this is SUPER DUPER exciting for me...
my goldfish girls have dropped eggs before,
but my goldie boys aren't too interested in the ladies i don't think. sad.gif
so i got these mollies to get rid of the bloodworm infestation in my pleco tank...
and i got one that looked to be pregnant hoping to get fry...
low and behold... WISH GRANTED!
so i took a couple of pics... but for the time being i'll only put up too. biggrin.gif
i'm too busy running back to check and make sure they're all still OK. wub.gif
so far there are 15 in the breeder net... here are a couple of 'em in a cup
before i got the breeder net i thought it would be "ok" to put them into the white cloud tank thinking...
their mouths are too small to eat the fry...
BIG MISTAKE!!!
i saw one munching on a fry!
so i hurriedly removed all the ones i could find!
i'll never be doing that again!!
i did get a few pictures of the fry in the planted tank though.
before the cannibalism!
here's one of the better ones...
yes that would be a dying elodea in the back right. sad.gif
still workin on getting them to live and not die. haha.
I have never netted my livebearer fry, although the tank is densly planted. Yes I realize a few of them do get eaten, but on the other hand I dont cull by hand. At first the adults were highly agressive to the fry, but in the last two months...those fry hang out all over the tank and the adults leave them alone. I started with only 2 females each of platties and mollies, now I regularly get groups of 10-30 newly born fry in my tank, about once every 2 weeks to a month.
If you have any plants that could live floating, I would add one or two to the net so the little ones have cover from the light, a place to anchor to rest, and something that they can nibble bits of algae off of. And congratulations on the fry, I hope they grow big and strong for you . smile.gif
yes, after i noticed TyRone (named by none other than my hunny buns because of his, the molly's, testosteron-y-ness) impregnating the OTHER 3 female mollies i have... i decided to chuck them back into the parent tank.
i will not be able to raise 80-100 fry in my 55 gal. wacko.gif
about half of the fry are swimming around the tank now, about 10... and the other half are still hiding under the mopani wood with the pleco. biggrin.gif
i can't wait to see how they grow! heartpump.gif
