On an impulse and driven by empty tank syndrome, I purchased a betta at our LFS. He has no name yet, and right now he has a 26 gallon tank all to himself! (The previous occupant is in my oranda's tank spawning.) The plan is to eventually move him into his own happy little 5 gallon. Is 5 gallons enough? He'll have a filter.









I just couldn't resist the light blue tips on his fins!

He looks exactly like my Tora!
Tora is a pale orange/peach colour vail tail with blue tips too. Betta's are wonderful and he'll be more then happy in a 5gal tank with filter.

My tora lives in a 5gal and I think most other Betta keepers keep their fighters in small tanks.

I can't offer any advice on their care, but what a pretty fish!

Very pretty 5 gallons will be fine for him.

Right now I have my little betta girl in a 20 gal but she has to share it with a platy and some small catfish. She loves all the room and is really thriving in that large environment. However, many people seem to have bettas in 5 gals and they are fine. Here's a pic of her in the 20--

You will love having a betta I'm sure--they have so much character.

Congrats on your new Betta. 5 gallons should be fine for him. My first fish was a betta and he was so easy to take care of. He lived for 3 years.

I thought goldfish would be easy also but they are so much harder to care for then bettas!

Thank you everyone for your kind replies! He's quite the looker, that's for sure. Thomas wasn't so sure about him, but how can you not love a mug like that? The betta's growing on him.
