Ok! Im taking a break from cleaning my 20 gallon! It was a old one that i got when me and my dad went to my lfs The owner was really nice! He said,"Are you a hard worker?", and I said, "yeah i guess i am." so he gave me this crusty old tank that REALLY needed work! so my dad and i got the crust off and filled it with water, but then galileo died(R.I.P) and i didnt really want to fix up another tank. Im finally ready for more fish! first i had to get most of the algae off the bottom, then get out all the water! almost done! about one-fourth left! anyways can any of you tell me a good, well-priced filter for a 20 gallon that will have two young orandas in it? Thanks in advance! biggrin.gif

goodluck with the rest of that, as for a filter I think an aquaclear 50 would b a good choice for a 20 gallon smile.gif thats what i have on my 29 gallon (I will upgrade that someday) but it would b just right for a 20 gallon i think
Oranda896
Thanks! i'll remember that! biggrin.gif
Little Peanut
Good luck!

FishCrazy
make sure your tank is clean..and bleach it is you can...

How about some pics?

1 part bleach to 10 parts water
Oranda896
Sure! I'll try to post pics but our cameras not working, and my dada doesnt like posting pics but I'll try! biggrin.gif
Oranda896
YAY! there is not even a centimeter of water left in the 10 g. !! Still have to scrub both but I have gotten REALLY far!
Oranda896
Yesterday I got my filter!!!! biggrin.gif ( my dad made me get the aquaclear30 instead blink.gif ) Do you think thats enough power? thanks in advance!
Shamu23
for a 20 gallon the ac 30 would not b enough, but u could add another smaller filter to the tank (one that does at least 50 gph) smile.gif
Oranda896
Oh no! well i guess i'll be able to raise the money in about two and a half weeks! ( dad just said that if thats not enough i have to pay for the 50gph) Thanks for all the info!
FishCrazy
you can go to wallyworld and buy a Aquatech 5-15 that pumps 100gph for $10
Oranda896
Does that $10 one work? If so then... Yay!!! Problem solved! Thanks FishCrazy! biggrin.gif

auqa tech filters are not great but it would work fine in combination with the ac, I've had a lot of problems with mine though so I just use it for qt. Im not saying u shouldnt buy it but Im just warning u that they arent greatest quality, mine draws in air all the time and the intake tube comes off, alot of the water leaks out by the intake tube and when I turn it off most of the time it does not come back on without re-adjusting the impeller, my brother had the same filter and it stopped, but at that time he didnt no u could fix it so he smashed it with a hammer.. but yeah, idk if someone else maybe had a better experience. I know they made a new model, my friend had it for her fish and it seemed to work fine but I hate the old one, maybe try to go for the new model. Wallyworld also sells tetra whisper filters for cheap I think u might b better off with a whisper smile.gif
Oranda896
Thanks! I'll check out both brands! biggrin.gif

My brother has a Aquatech 5-15 for 2 years..I really like it much better than Whispers(they are not at all a whisper)

I have a Whiper 20-40 200gph for my 20 gallon and it sounds like a lawn mower...I had a other that just stoped on me..

I plan to buy 2 Aquatech 5-15 to replace my "Whisper"
Oranda896
I'll keep all those things in mind when i go to the store. Thanks! I've also heard that the whisper is kinda noisy, but I'll check it out anyway! biggrin.gif

Hmm, I don't mind my Whisper filters... I don't really hear them at all, maybe I'm just lucky and got good ones. Setting up tanks is always fun, can't wait to see what yours look like when they're done!
Oranda896
Thanks! the 20g is going to be a bare bottom! and My dad said I can post pis when they're cycled!
Shamu23
really? my bro's whisper is quiet, the aquatech is louder in my opinion
Oranda896
If I have enough money I'll try to buy both, then try them out! Thanks for the brands!

I recommend either an Aquaclear 50 http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl36...ar50powerfilter or a Marineland Penguin Biowheel 200B. http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl36...200bpowerfilter

Both are really nice and are generally the most popular power filters besides the Marineland Emperor line. Whatever power filter you decide to get, make sure it has a gallon per hour (gph) of at least 200. Up to 350 gph would be fine. I used to run a Penguin 350B in my old 20. But that was only because I was overstocked. The power filters in the links should be adequate for your tank.
Oranda896
Finally get to scrub them today!! (been busy) I have another question. After I scrub with the bleach and water solution, dry it, and make sure there is no bleach in the tank, is it ok if I set up the tanks and start cycling? Thanks! (i know i probably spelled cycling wrong)
goldfishlover10
Rinse the tank once or twice with normal water. If you still smell bleach after the rinsing, just let the tank dry out in the sun. That'll take away any bleach left. After that's all done, you can start cycling.
Oranda896
Finished the 10g!! Dads working ont he 20g!! I rinsed it REALLY well so it should be fine!! biggrin.gif Now all I have to do is put together the filters and arrange the decor! I'll post more info later! Gotta go help my dad!
