Full Version: Bubbleeye Question

My newest fish I presume is a BubbleEye. He/she is about 4 inches long (tail included). His eyes are somewhat upturned but the bubble around his eyes are very small compared to the many other bubbleeye fish I have seen. In photos he looks golden/black however he is actually pretty solid black except for his belly. Would you think he would become more orange over time or stay black? And will his eye bubbles get larger? Just like to me to buy the fish and then ask the questions later. rolleyes.gif
You can check him out on the photo section if you'd like. I have neer been one to like bubbleeye goldfish but this one just stole my hear! heartpump.gif

Those bubble eyes do grow on you, don't they?
I hope you get your questions answered! Maybe the bubble eye part grows with the fish? There are plenty here with bubble eyes who can easily answer your questions. I just wanted to comment on how adorable they can be. rolleyes.gif

Aw thanks. Have you a bubble eye as well?

No, I don't. sad.gif They look so incredibly loveable though. (to me) I'm sure my Hubby wouldn't want one, since the last time we saw one at our pet store he said "Ewwwwww - those things are UGLY!!" - so loud that they must have heard him across the store. cry2.gif I wouldn't be surprised if they all had inferiority complexes now. unsure.gif

I don't have a bubble-eye, either, but Thomas does the same thing. "But I don't want one of those mutated fish!" So I tell him to go catch a wild carp. tongue.gif

I used an oxymoron to describe the bubble eye--"pretty ugly". But then I had never had the priviledge of viewing a black beauty. heartpump.gif One look and she was MINE! newfish.gif

Congrats on your bubble-eye! These fishies have great personalities biggrin.gif !!!...but stay smaller than many others. I was like you, not really swayed until I saw my calico musthave bubble -eye. The bubbles grow yes and can get huge. They also thicken up and change color, get stronger and get miniature blood vessels running through them. While they are small especially, the bubble sacs are very easily popped so the tank should be either bare or without any sharp places..I'm sure you know that. I wonder if your bubble-eye will stay black or go orange. Who knows the mystery of our color changing goldies!

Thanks Trinket!
Bubbles is in a bare bottom tank with my rescued red cap oranda Feldman who is blind in his left eye. I figured they would make excellent tank mates. 00001649.gif

Another question while I'm at it, he/she is at least 4 1/2 inches including tail. If these fish typically stay smaller than other goldfish how much large would one expect a bubble eye to become?

Those two will make perfect tank companions yes!. Bubble eyes will take a little longer with food so a short-sighted partner sounds just the ticket wink.gif My bubble eye will bounce the food between his eye sacs and then into his mouth sometimes, wierd to see!

Yours sounds almost like a adult fish already. I think about 6" is full size for many bubble eyes but no doubt some-ones going to come along and paste a pic of a whopper now... biggrin.gif

I have a black bubble eye, the bubbles were small somewhat when I first brought him in, but they seem to have grown bigger... and the color of the body is noticeably blacker now. But at night the blackness can go away and it can become quite pale.
