I recently gave away all of the guppies in my 10g planted tank. I have wanted to put a different type of fish in the tank and I've always had a fondness for cory cats. Is a 10g large enough for a cory and if so, how many can safely be in the tank. The only occupants I have now are about 5-6 guppy fry that I was not able to catch.

Cories do best in schools, you could put 3 in there no problem

Thanks for the input. Now it's off to the LFS to pick out some new friends

You will love your cories--they are so much fun to watch! Post pix if you can. Here's one of my bronzes--

I have 3 in a 20 gal with some other fish. They swim all over the tank, not just on the bottom. I think they've even learned to eat food from the top of the water--looks like it anyway.

I suggest Pygmy Cories. You can keep ~ 5 of them in that tank.

Mine too

I have 4 in my 20 gallon. What's funny is I bought 2 and then about 6 months later bought the other 2 and the 4 don't school very often. They stick to their origional partners

Cory catfish like to be kept in groups of 3+.... I think you could keep 5 in a 10 gallon, if that's the only fish in there.
They will need other food other than just the leftovers from the other fish. They'd probably enjoy algae wafers, and some sinking tropical food.

I might have to wait on the cories. Since I gave away the guppies, I still have one adult male and about 7 or 8 guppy fry. Even though they are small and I might be able to get away with some cories in the short term, in about 6 months or so, I will probably be overwhelmed with guppies again.

Good for you for planning in advance, and thinking about the well-being of your fish!

Thank you. I've learned through a lot of trial and error to be very careful about how many fish I can keep in my tanks. At one point, I had 9 goldies in a 46 gallon. Of those 9, seven used to be in a 15 gallon. That was before I found Koko's and now I have just 4 in the 46g and 2 in a 20g
