I have heard that not enough light and high nitrates can cause brown algae, but I'm not 100% certain.
Your tank readings are 0 across the board, so your tank is not cycled? I don't know about adding chemicals like that to an uncycled tank. I wouldn't risk it.

Brown algae exists where there's not enough light for green algae to develop (or green algae hasn't yet developed), but the brown algae still needs light. So turning up the light can 'solve' brown algae, but only by causing the green kind.
Around here we tend to recommend that you avoid anti-algae products because they are mild herbicides. While not deadly to your fish or anything, they're probably not exactly good either.
Algae is part of a aquarium environment, and are actually a good thing for both the water (consumes nitrates) and the fish (provides a healthy source of food for them).
The best way to try to get rid of is it to reduce the light the tank is exposed to, but brown algae doesn't need a lot of it so that may or may not be successful.
