My boys filter broke while I ways away my sister is young so she didn't notice them when they became stressed. What she had describe to me sounded like they had ich and when the started to get all red and bloody looking she called me in a panic. I never saw ich but with the filter being broken and them being so stressed I took it as a precation. They were so bad I didn't know what more I could do. I went home every couple days to vaccum the gravel. We treated and change the water replaced the broken filter. Things are a lot more stable now the reading are current from two days ago and my fantail has become active again and started eating. My Tele has shown very little improvement, he barely moves. My biggest concern is he wont come up to eat. I am afraid he is going to starve it has been six days. I thought about trying to hand feed so he doesn't have to swim up but I don't know if that is such a good Idea. I am really at a loss at this point.

I posted a couple hours earlier but since then
My fish tank cracked and so I have a completely new set up only thing from the other tank is the filter I didn't even bother with gravel . One of my fish is all red he is normally all white and looks like his fins are just falling apart. He won't swim he won't eat. I thought they had ich but then overnight he just turn all red. I don't know what this is. I really need something I am going crazy.

I'm so sorry that your fish is ill. First your filter, then the tank..
I read your post earlier, but I couldn't offer any help, so I didn't reply.
I will reply now to wish you the best for your fish. I'm sure someone who can offer help will be here soon.
Good luck, and Welcome to Koko's!
Debbie

First of all, those two meds cannot be used together at the same time and you will need to do a full water change to get them out. This water change should be temperature matched and pH matched to avoid farther stress. At this point healing up will have a lot to do with stress levels and good water so please make sure of those two points, esp temperature (use your little finger to test the new water is approx the same as the old tank water).
Then you need to check the fins to make absolutely sure the fish have ich. Ich looks like someone spinkled the fish with salt or sugar.
If there is no ich you should probably continue using the Maracyn2 if the fish are bloody looking and you have it to hand. Also because antibiotic courses (unlike ich meds) MUST be finished through or resistance and problems develop.
Could you then post back about the ich? If you can see those grains or saw them, for sure?

My Little sister said she saw little white spots on them. I had her treat them for ich until they turned red, now I am only using the Maracyn2. I am not mixing them and I had changed the water in between using both of them.

He doesn't sound very well at all but you are doing all you can by the sounds of it.
Have you tried feeding sinking food? Alternatively feed some cooked peas, shelled and cut into small pieces, these will sink and most fish find them very appertising. Fish also love frozen blood worms which sink when defrosted.

I'm not sure what exactly is affecting your fish, it sounds like fin rot at least. The only suggestion I have based on what you posted is to do more frequent water changes, especially now that you have a smaller tank that is not fully cycled. (I'm not sure if you know about cycling, but there is a lot of info about it on this site). I'd suggest you do a water change at least every 5 days, but if the ammonia or nitrite start spiking, it will need to be more frequent.

Thanks for your suggestions, I will keep an eye on the water, I have cycled tanks before so I guess I will just have to hope for the best.

Wookiewench, definetely upt the water changes to every day if you have to. Test your water every day and do water changes whenever ammonia and/or nitrites go above 0.25.
You did good moving your filter onto your new tank - that means you also transported a good amount of your beneficial bacteria over as well. That bacteria will take care of your ammonia and nitrites. However, you left all your gravel behind, which also contains the beneficial bacteria. So, you definetely have to watch your water readings and expect to do frequent, larger water changes. Are you using buckets for water changes, or the python system? With buckets its a bit more work. Haven't seen a bucket for my fish in my house in years.

Oh, and I moved your two threads together - its easier to keep up that way.

Thanks I will change the water as much as I can The fish are at home and I am in college so I can only come home every couple days. I would like to know if I can use melafix while they are being treated with the maracyn 2?
Ranchugirl

Well, Melafix is really only a tonic and not a strong medication. The Maracyn 2 will take care of things much better, so it isn't really neccessary to use both meds together. Its like treating a cold with vitamins and a cold medication - the vitamins will only supplement, while the cold medication will treat the cold more effectively. Less meds is always better.
