Ok, I know this isn't a fish and probably belongs on pet brigade, but since so many people here keep aquatic frogs (and since Heidi requested!) I thought I'd show you my African Clawed Frog.

This is Pudgy (sorry, but it's the best pic I have).

I got him (well he's a she I believe) when I was 8 because I did a school project on frogs and became obsessed. At first, he lived in a fish bowl with sand and a rock blink.gif He eventually moved to a critter keeper and now an aquarium. He's also lived in 5 different houses/apartments with me. Pudgy has escaped a few times, once he actually crawled through a hole in the wall and landed on the basement floor....he was also dropped in the toilet before...I'm convinced he's indistructable.

This geezer has a very simple existance. He eats the same reptomin food sticks he's eaten his whole life, with blood worms every now and then. He has a gravel substrate with silk plants, and no filter (it bothers his lateral line and makes him freak out). He enjoys sitting on the bottom and pretending to be a rock, eating, and swimming to the surface to breathe...that's about it biggrin.gif

LOL, I don't know about that but he's getting up there for sure!

He lives in a 10 gallon now. He doesn't eat so much or produce a lot of waste, so I just do waterchanges about every 3 weeks and even then nothing comes out of the gravel.

How large is he? What a handsome frog. I have always loved frogs since I was little - the outdoor kind - but I never thought of having an indoor one. Thanks for sharing! smile.gif

so if I really wanted too..I could buy a ten gallon rubermaid..with gravel and I can get a frog...would I need a filter?

About 5 inches from feet to head. I think he was probably stunted as a youngster when I kept him in a small container, because I've seen them much bigger.

Yep. I don't use a filter because I heard it really bothers their lateral line systems (their motion detectors) but tons of people do keep them with filters, that would be up to you. They also like hidey places and plants.

I'm not sure what the average is Shamu, but mine sheds a lot too, at least once a month.

Wow your frog is adorable! Congrats on keeping him so long!

I have adfs and my boy is really fussy about shedding and sheds every time I change the water and sometimes up to a couple times a week. My girls seem to shed a lot less. I think some are just more sensitive and shed more.
