Last weekend I got a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank from Tractor Supply Co. I would like to experiment with starting green water outside. I have read the article from Raffles Gold about starting green water indoors, but can someone tell me how to go about this outside?

I have a good location for it on a patio on the east side of my house, but am wondering if it will get enough sun there. Generally this location gets direct light from sun-up until about 11:00 am. After that it is in the shade. I hesitate to put it anywhere else (on the west or south side of the house, for instance) because later in the summer it will get SO hot (this is Texas, after all!)

Will a small fountain in the middle of the tank provide adequate oxygenation or do I need additional airstones? What are your thoughts about stocking it with feeder goldfish? I know that there are concerns about feeder fish being diseased and having parasites, but I figured this might be an opportunity to rescue a few of them from a grim fate!

Can I use a regular water conditioner for water intended for green water, or do I need to use something else?

Thanks!

I am using green water but not familiar with outdoor environment. People said it is easier to have green water outdoor. Anyway, the site inside this thread has detail information about outdoor green water info. Enjoy

Yes, you can use regular water conditioner for green water tank. In my case, I use Prime.

Hi -- Thanks, this is the link to the article I've already read (about starting green water indoors). My question is mostly how many hours of outdoor sunlight do I need to start green water? Thanks!
