Gotta a question...

So I recently replaced the gravel bottom (yes, horror!) of my 29 gallon tank to larger smooth stones that the fish cannot pick up in their mouth. When I feed them Pro Gold the pellets drop like little bullets, usually falling neatly between stones where the fish can't reach. Maybe they are just not savy with their environment yet, but they swim around like, "Huh? What happened to the food, man?" So I end up feeding them a few more but at the most they may be a couple of pellets a piece while they watch the rest of the pellets burrow down between the stones.
Am I missing some uique way to feed falling pellets like Pro Gold?

I have big river rocks too and whenever I used to give soaked pellets, some of them would go in between the big rocks and my goldfish couldnt get to it no matter how many time they tried. Best solution: find a small glass bowl, put it in the tank and drop the food in it. It works very well.

I have the same problem with my sinking pellets ..try putting a glass bowl or plate at the bottom of the tank or I just make a clear spot so it is just barebottom and thats where I try and aim the food there.

using a glass bowl is a great idea...or you could use a tetra clay plate...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The ole glass plate in the bottom of the tank trick. Jimeny Christmas, aren't I the ill informed one?

I was just looking in my tank today thinking the EXACT same thing! When I feed it falls to the bottom and gets stuck in the marbles.. I was going to pick up a bowl but it gives my fish something to do all day. lol! They push the marbles around looking for food all day. I think I'm going to clear the marbles out of the corner where the food ring is or put a clear bowl.

Or have fewer stones - so they can actually pick around them!

you can put the stones in the middle and then kkep the sides bear where you can feed.

if the stones aren't too big, the goldfish will actually push them around to get to the food.

My marbles get pushed around.

They push the marbles around on my bare bottom to get to the goodies.

The goldfish, when the pro-gold is under a marble, on the bottom of the tank - they shove the marble aside to get the food.

Or better yet, buy those big colorful Slushie straws~!

But a bit awkward to use something to feed your fish when it was designed to feed fish to you...

Poor Ferrero gets run over all the time now by both Charlie and Tinko. He doesn't even seem flustered though. Maybe he just thinks it's the natural state of existence for Spherical Ryukins.

Ferrero likes the Pro-Gold you brought - the little pieces he can fit in his little pointed gob. He doesn't seem to be growing, but his color is getting really deep. You'll get to see him in a week and a half anyway.

hehe he's probably rolling around all the time anyway... from being pushed around by his tank mates and the powerhead. hehe. he's such a little cutie!

i thought he might like the pro-gold!!! i hope it helps him grow big and strong! or round and squishy... whichever applies best.

I have been using the bowl and it works no mess no fuss the boys learned fast thats were the food is!
