I have three fish,1 comet(Macey),1 sarassa comet(Ruby),and a shubunkin(Capt. Jack)in a 65g tank.The tank has been running for a month,I use Cycle,Tetra Aquasafe and Easy Balance,and Nutrifin Waste Control.The filter is a AquaClear for 40 to 70g tanks.Right now there's Mardel,Maracyn-TC in the tank and,I'm feeding the fish Jungle Labs Anti Bacterial food.Water test results;ph from tap 7.8,ph in tank 7.4,ammonia 0,nitrite 0,and nitrate 2.Macey is 6 inches fron nose to tail,Ruby is 4.5 inches,and Capt. Jack is 2 inches.
Ruby's tail and fins look torn and ragged and she keeps her dorsal fin down alot. She also has a spot on one side that is grayish in color and she gasps a little bit more than she should but,not alot.Aside from what I've described she acts healthy, she is very active and eats good.Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Can you describe the spot in detail? A picture would be nice, otherwise a description of the size, color (is it different color on the outside vs inside), as well as where the spot is would help. Also do you notice it growing? Does it look like its fuzzy/on top, or is it eating away at her, like there is a small hole?

I don't have a way to post a picture so,I'll describe the spot the best I can.The spot is a little larger than a shirt button,it is between the gills and dorsal fin,it isn't growing,it doesn't look like its eating at her,and the color is just grayish, like there is something on her.

you can always "attach a file" if you can shrink the picture small enough.
I have not seen this before, so I cannot give you useful advice.. hopefully someone else knows what this is. If there are no red edges on the spot, I don't think its a bacterial infection. Anytime I have seen one it has red edges and is eating away at the fish. Might be a fungal infection.. just something to keep in mind.
Good luck.

I just did a major water change.Ruby's raising her dorsal fin more and the spot is gone but, some of the scales that were under the spot are missing and, she's got a red streak in her anal fin.She is still very active and acts healthy.I'm going to wait a day then use the Maracyn-TC again.I also added some aquarium salt.

I think Ruby's getting over whatever she has.I treated the tank for Ich,added salt, and fed the anti-bacterial food for 2 more days and, today she's doing much better. Her tail is still ragged and she is rubbing against plants like she's scratching an itch but, she' much more active and more agressive at feeding time.I'm going to use Jungle Labs LifeGuard for a few days just to be safe.
