this may be a dumb question but what tropical fish tend to fight with each other:
male bettas?
female bettas?
male guppies?
female guppies?
what fish would fight with eachother?
thanx

The bettas....they will fight each other if it is not breeding time.
Why do you ask?

Male guppies will fight also if they are not kept in larger groups/groups with females.

so the males are dangerous,
i was just curious because i might get three of these that dont fight, most likely 3 betta females or three guppie females,
thanx.

If you are willing to take a bit of a risk, I would say bettas. Sorority tanks are slightly risky. You will also need lots of decorations so they can establish territories.
Correct me If Im wrong but I heard somewhere that you could have six in a 10 gallon. Maybe you could have nine in your fifteen gallon?

I would go with 6 in a 15gal, introduce all of the females at once so they do not establish a territory and kill the other tank mates.

My boyfriend bought me some more guppy males recently so now I have 5 in a 5 gal and 2 in a 1.5 gal. Not enough room, I know, but have no where else to put them right now! Anyway, none of them fight with each other. They like to play tag sometimes but it's not fighting--nothing rough. The 2 in the little tank are really cute the way they hang out--even sleep by each other at night, resting on the bottom of the tank. I'm sure there are more aggressive males but I've had a number of guppy boys now and they are all just playful with no damage being done.
Five gal per betta is a good rule but I think in a larger tank you could have a few more--four or five females would be good. I agree with putting them all in at the same time and giving them lots of plants and caves to hide in.

It all really depends on temperament though.

As long as there are no females you can usually keep groups of male guppies no problem. The fighting starts when a lady comes around

Don't get guppies and bettas together i learnt from experience sadly, the guppies died from the bettas consistly attacking them. I left them in the tank for 2 days and told them to leave the betta in the box but unfortunately my sis felt bad and let it out, it was chaos for the guppies.
