I just noticed what I think may be fungus on my betta's head. Here's a pic. I have all kinds of meds on hand, and salt, but I wouldn't mind a little advice.

Oh, btw, he lives in a 3 gallon, planted plastic tank. There's no filtration but I do a water change every 2 days and the perams are all good. (I can test later to make sure, I just want to get a diagnosis on his face asap). He's been living in there for a year with no problems. There has been a bit of a brown algae bloom lately, but I didn't think that was an issue.

Hopefully you can see, there's whitish discoloration around his mouth and on his gill flap. It doesn't really look fluffy, but whatever it is has appeared in the past two days.

Hmm not sure what that could be Chrissy. How is he today? Have you started him on any meds yet? Or salt? You might try salting the tank and adding fungus clear. It is a great med, just be sure to use the proper dosage. I wish I could help more!

Thanks for the reply, he seems fine now. Maybe it was just paranoia on my part tongue.gif
I usually do salt his tank anyway but haven't lately, so I added a little when I did a water change. I'm keeping an eye on it though.

I just noticed the same discoloration in my betta, except it's on the top of his head. At first i thought he might have caught something from his new roommate, a black mystery snail. is that possible?

Snails don't typically get the same diseases as fish, but they can carry parasites/germs into the tank.

I noticed what looks like some mould growing on the plants in my betta's tank, definatly a problem and likely the cause of what I saw!!! I'm thinking about moving him into an entirely different tank where I know the perams are good. I just feel bad because he seems like a little old man who's very settled into his current home tongue.gif

Glad to hear he's better now, it looked like a little thicker slime coat on his head to me, nothing to be worried about I'd say biggrin.gif
