I took a brave new step today and made my first batch of home-made fish food. Following the instructions laid out by members on different forums, I created my own recipe with what I could find at my lgs. It was a little larger batch then I intended considering I only have nine goldies that arent that big yet but the stuff gel up just fine and I've cubed it up and froze it. I fed some to my goldies and at first I didn't think they were going to like it because they spat it back out but after they mouthed it around a little they must of decided they liked it because from that point they went nuts over it!! But man, Phew!!, that stuff really stinks!! *holds nose*

My question to all of you who make your own home-made fish food is this.......How long can this stuff stay good in the refrigerator? How long in the freezer? At what point should I throw both out? Right now, I've got enough frozen stuff made to last half the year. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to kill my fishies because the stuff has gone bad. sad.gif

Way to have a successful first try!! My first few were disasters.
I think in the fridge I would throw the food out after a few days (assuming there's a lot of protein in there). In the freezer I'm not as sure, maybe somone else could offer a suggestion on that one.

I think it was pure dumb luck! LOL But I guess since they ate it, it must be okay. Right? Yes, there is some protein in it. Pink Salmon and cocktail shrimp. This is the ingredients.....

1 can pink salmon(in water)
5 .oz cooked cocktail shrimp
5 .oz bag of organic baby lettuces(mixed variety)
1 jar gerber peas
1 jar gerber green beans
1 jar gerber carrots
1 jar gerber sweet potatoes
1 jar gerber bananas
1 tsp. paprika
Several Wardley algae discs(didn't count number)
5 packets clear unflavored knox gelatin

If anyone seens something wrong with the recipe, please speak up. I'm very new at this and would like to keep my babies happy and healthy, not accidentially kill them. Thanks!
