I have a question. I have a 55 gallon tank with five fantail goldfish. I have been having a algea problem in my tank so I got a 6 inch common pleco and he did a great job cleaning my tank. Is it ok to have this pleco in my tank with my goldfish? And three of my goldfish tails have splits in them and the rest do not but they are still happily swimming around and dont seem to be acting differently. ?? unsure.gif

some people are lucky not to have any problems but they have been known to eat the slime coat off goldfish at night while they sleep I once had a pleco and it happened to me ..so I would say it is better not to ..

I had a common plec with my goldies for a few years and things seemed fine, but once he got larger he started hurting my fish BIG TIME (he ate the eyes out of one of them sad.gif )

I'd reccomend getting the plec out of there before you get an unpleasent suprise someday.

thank you very much. Today im taking him back and getting a rubbernose or a bristle nose pleco. But not snails because when i had two snails in my tank the goldfish picked at them until they finally died. But thanks .

That's good news, I hope you find a nice new plec who will live peacefully with your fish biggrin.gif

I wouldn't use a rubberlip. Mine managed to tear up the sides of two ranchus and remove one of their eyes.
