King and Doll's spawning didn't go as planned. Doll ended up killing King. they wrapped once and that was it. Doll is very aggressive I don't think I will breed her again. I do have a V-tail pair that were ready to breed and decided to give it a go.. They wrapped 10+ times and his bubble nest is full of eggs.The tank is covered and he's being a great daddy. I'm getting extra Fry supplies tomorrow and getting ready for their Brood..I can't wait!

This was a very gentle spawning..Both came out with NO injuries.

Why is the water level so low?

No dad takes the eggs in his mouth and blows them into his nest.. he's gaurding it now.. The water level is low for breeding purpose.. allows the male to retrieve his eggs.. water level is about 5 inches..

i see they are differnt from goldfish...

sorry about King. Sometimes that happens in breeding or they tear each others fins up. Congrats on the babies.

Babies are here they are sooooooooo tiny! daddy is doing well he's spitting them back into the nest when they fall..Betta fry are born w/o swim-bladders so they will often fall to bottom of tank. Daddy then spots them and softly picks them up and spits them into a safe bubble. Charm has made extra bubbles for his young.. he's got a 2 story house going!

That is so cool Jewels. Can't wait till they are hatched and you can see their little tails hanging out of the bubble nest. Congrats

That's very interesting about the mating of bettas, that the dad takes care of the fry, and that he makes a nest!

thanks hun. I miss him dearly.. and feel very guilty for his death.. It does happen though. I'm just thrilled my V-Tail spawn went well and no injuries occured

It's really a beautiful event... Charm was such a gentleman until he was done.. then he turned into a devil and kept her away..FAR away

yes the part where they wrap is called an embrace or wrapping . that is when the male is fertilizing her eggs and squeezing her to drop them


That is how it is . He Breeds with her and then gets rid of her. Daddy takes care of the eggs and fry . Then when the fry are free swimming ,Dad comes out of the tank too

Woooo! Look at those good parents! Even the female is collecting eggs! I never had a female who collected eggs with that vigor, they were always like " Yeah, okay. Lets get this over with."

Hey BQ..When should I remove him?...Maybe by Wednesday?? I'm getting the egg yolk ready now..I'm using duck eggs they are bigger and I think they contain more protein? JP said I could deff use them.LOL.. well in the end you can see him flare at her saying" my eggs go away!"
