I am a new Beta owner and when I bought my fish it did not look loke the other Betas, his fins are all split and scrawny looking. When I first bought him he wouldn't eat for about a month. I changed the tank size to a two gallon tank and started feeding him blood worms instead of pellets. I also put a heater in his tank and now he eats and is very active. I am worried that he has fin rot, the lady at the pet store said that he should be dead by now if he does, it has been about four months since I got him. He seems happy but since I sarted looking at other betas on the internet I realized that his fins dont look anything like any other Betas. I put some aquarium salt in and am wondering if that is good enough. I also put some general aid from Petcetera in there, I don't know if that is a good thing though. I also want to know how long it is before you will see results in the healing process. And I also want to know if it is too late for me to help the little guy. Someone help me!!!!

You can use melafix or just salt and heat. Keep his water perfect and the temps up past 80.. the salt is something they need.

Jewels is correct. The lady at the pet store did not know what she is talking about. It may take a couple weeks till you begin noticing a change but the whole healing process may take a month or longer. do not be suprised if the new fin growth comes in clear at first . It will color back up eventually. And since you have a 2 gallon make sure to complete water changes weekly if not every couple days till his fins heal and then weekly at least after he is healed up
