Hey everyone
I got my first Betta two days ago and waited a day before feeding it. However today when I tried to feed him I couldn't get it to eat! To me it looked as though he couldn't see the flake so I waited for a very long time, but he never ate it, so I removed it from the tank. Is this a bad sign? Am I feeding him wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

what kind of flakes are you feeding him?

most betta foods that i've seen are pellets.

You know what I just bought 2 female betta's last week and when I was feeding them they didnt eat until 1 hour later. I guess they need time to get used to everything.

I've had new bettas refuse to eat for days on end. Have patience and try a few different types of food. Bloodworms are an options as well.

Many bettas don't care much for flakes but all mine love the bloodworms and brine shrimp. I use freeze dried but live is probably better for really picky eaters.

Betta's are very picky! try bloodworms...or Brine shrimp

Thanks alot I'll try experimenting with different foods maybe. I don't want the poor guy to starve!

he is probably adjusting to his surroundings. Try this method with a good quailty pellet ( as mentioned most bettas do not like flakes)

.1. Get a good pellet like hikori betta gold , you can buy that anywhere even the Wallyworld.
2. place a couple of pellets in the tank ( do not overfeed- it will spoil your water faster). Wait five minutes . If he does not eat the pellets then remove the uneaten food and do not offer him anymore food untill it is his next feeding time.
3. Repeat step one
4. do this every time you feed him ( either once or twice a day) . and he will eventually start eating. you are in a way training him to eat.
I once had a new betta that did not eat for a while. MR.Bumblebee gave me this technique and he started eating
