I'm totally excited about finding a moss ball/marimo ball at my LFS. It's so cool!

Anyone keep these and have any advice, especially in terms of sterilizing/quarantining?

I got it for $7.99 US. There were only three: I bought one and one was pretty ripped up. But the third one was nice! PM me Nenn and let's figure it out!

Ooooo! I love those moss balls. They sell them at an lfs near me and I've been thinking of re-doing my tank with them instead of plants seeing as mine never thrive.
I think that you need to roll them over regularly in order to keep their spherical shape apart from that I'm not sure if there are any other secrets of success. I'll bet SnBMeg will be able to tell you.

PS. I usually QT my plants alone with some Sterazin.

My favorite LFS has them. They are not too expensive but I am sure my fish would find them delicious.

Yep rotate them often every 3-7days. 2 watts per gallon minimum and co2 or ferts.

I heard you can treat plants with a dose of parasite-clear. Do you think that's a good option?

I dunno about that, Chickey. They're not technically plants, but rather a cohesive ball of algae. I don't think that would make as much of a tasty snack as a leafy plant would. The fish quarantining with my marimo hardly notices its prescence.

We'll see, though, when I put it in with my Roxanne...

I'd prefer to go with a pp dip or bleach dip.

Does the bleach dip go for the moss ball, too, considering that it is algae? I'm worried about killing it.

I would not use PP or bleach, I don't think.
Better to just leave it without fish for 3 weeks or take Nenns idea of PC tabs if you can't find Sterazin.

My fish like algae. I give those balls about a minute with the wrecking crew.
