Hi

I'm looking to get a plec to add to my tank, for some algae control and variety.... I read alot about the bristlenose plec but cannot find one for love nor money! sad.gif
All my pet shop stocks is the "butterfly plec" and the "Hong Kong plec"

Does anyone know anything about these two types?

Cheers

Hong Kong Plec is most likely also called the Borneo Scooter or Hillstream Loach. This species is not compatible thugh to different environmental requirements (this one needs fast flowing water).

Butterfly Pleco is also used to describe Hillstream Loaches.

i have had one of these before, and they're listed as compatible...never had any trouble with him (dyson), he'd just hang out in spots in the tank with good water flow and chill smile.gif jmo anyway

in fact, the hillstream loach on the compatible fish page (follow the link in the box at the top) is a picture of my dyson (RIP) smile.gif

I do not suggest getting a pleco because of the large amount of algea they need. they also get BIG. they need to eat tons of algea and can starve to death like my friends did.

Plecos can not live on algae at all. They need supplements like goldies and should be fed bottom dweller food, carrot, zucchini and other various vegetables. Not all species of plecos get large the majority that are goldfish compatable don't get much bigger than 6inches.
